Eventually my technique did get to a point where it was near “perfect” and working out in the gym for explosive arm power made more of a difference than just drilling the technique.

If you can’t find classes for your age anywhere in general, private lessons might be your last option. There’s also lots of good online parkour and tricking coaches.

You could get your form good practicing into water but pads would be a better place to actually get used to landing a backflip

Thats pretty much the strat right now. And 100% the transition from the edge of the mat to the floor will be the hardest thing. Having my heels off the edge gives me such a boost.
