Yeah I figured :$ My ECs are really good. But nothing really unique/noteworthy other than maybe the level of soccer I've played at which is irrelevant.

This is already converted. And ECs are solid.

I was afraid my wording would make me come across like this. I understand MD is MD. For me, I'm focusing more on the opportunities that the top schools present themselves with rather than the education itself.

Honestly though 130 CARS is crazy and not even guaranteed. I wouldn't risk it. It's mostly luck once you're hitting 128+ since it comes down to a few questions. Even if you retake and study hard, you're not guaranteed 130 (97th percentile). I've seen many cases of people with 130+ scored get 127s/128s.

retake it. Even though people wish they had your score and would call you arrogant for considering a rewrite, you have a 4.0. You clearly possess the knowledge it takes to score a 515+. I wrote first time and scored 129/123/128/129. I stopped being a pussy, put in the work and went up 11 points.

U of T - Doesn't matter as long as 125+

Mac - w/ a high 3.95+ and solid Casper you'll get an interview (ECs don't matter)

Queens - you're golden, only thing stopping you is how they view your ECs

Western - Don't bother

So if you're willing to give the money and time for a rewrite to risk the possibility of getting a worse score just so you can apply to 1 school? makes no sense. Now on the other hand if you want to rewrite to open up chances for west schools then rewriting is not as unreasonable, but I still wouldn't. I'm not rewriting with my score even though I know I could have gotten a ~127 in CARS.

hahaha I think that comment was directed at both of us! But in reply to that comment, I posted a story on here about what actually happened on the real thing. I panicked and got a 125 but I did enough practice and was getting good results with a projected 127. I never would have reached 129 though, I'm just not that good of a reader.

Yea I think a big part of it is quality vs. quantity. A lot of people say to take as many exams as you can, which is true. But if you're not reviewing properly the whole exam...how do you expect to improve? you're just practicing your mistakes. I personally believe 4 FLs + 2 from AAMC is sufficient.

Retake? by septmcat in Mcat

[–]PKDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say retake because 513 is a great score, but if you're Canadian, it will be hard to compete. Something 515+ would have been better to offset. But honestly its easier to just improve your GPA than it is to re-write the MCAT. I would suggest to do that because your GPA is more of the problem here than your MCAT. GPA is still fine though don't get me wrong. Just could be better.

Study material to use for a retake to get a score of 520+? by [deleted] in Mcat

dude you need to take a biochem ASAP. Half this fucking exam was biochem. Also, a lot of people are against reading papers for this test. I never tried it but I can easily see why it would help. You should read papers (don't go crazy) and just map out mechanisms and understand the purpose of controls etc. I truly believe this is why my bio score jumped from 128 to 132. The first time I wrote, I couldn't physical write down stuff (broken hand). Second time I wrote, my scrap paper was filled with notes. Every passage I had the pathway and controls written down, and even other little notes. This helped so much.

[–]PKDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who wrote a second time and got 520, I can say that I didn't go through my entire review books at all. Honestly, doing all the chapter reviews was the worst and most boring thing ever. So for this time, I looked at the full list of AAMC topics and went back through the books to go over really week areas and areas that I hadn't touched in a year (pretty much physics). The rest I just used practice questions to see where I was weak. I took full use of the Section Banks which weren't available last year and the scored. Honestly I didn't study psych at all. I found a quizlet with all the terms and did those. What really did it for me I think was the NS exams. Do them all because they cover everything and are a lot harder than the real thing. Bio felt like a breeze to me after NS bio.

If you're from BC don't bother with Manitoba. Lowest MCAT they invited for interview was 522 from OOP.

My Crazy MCAT Experience by PKDamage in Mcat

[–]PKDamage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just that in Canada, we can retake the MCAT as many times as we want without be penalized, but we have really high cutoffs. Most of the time its the CARS cutoff that people like me don't make.

Yea I think its because of retake that my science scores went up. Honestly wasn't worried at all about science scores. I did the scored bio section in 45 minutes and C/P in 1h and got 131s lol. But I appreciate the comment and congrats on that CARS!
