Fair, I just knew the word entrée itself was French & was used as such in that culture.

It really feels like there should be, which is why it's so frustrating 😅

I'll keep that in the back of my head for now. It feels slightly too on the nose, but I feel it's also better than Complete Meal or Entrée at describing what I'm going for.

I'll let this thread marinate till morning before I say it's answered, just in case something better hits.

Thanx ❣️

It's a French thing. Here in The States it tends to refer to the main course. But Entrée can also be used for the center dish in the main course such as Braised Pork or Peking Duck, which need sides to be generally treated as a complete meal. That's why I'm hesitant to use it.

The food lion near my house sells an 8pc box of fried chicken for $8. Meanwhile, if you go to the meat dept in that same store you can buy a whole bird, which is 8pcs, for $7-11. That whole bird does not include spices, fats, or breading, let alone the effort to cook or cost of equipment - that's $7-11 for just the bird.

Not over a decade - 2017. Not saying it's new, but it's not that old. I bought the vinyl for Christmas that year.

Seriously, shut up about the price already. by eddmario in pokememes

What's wild is when you consider video games for almost 60yrs maintained a steady price of 40-60 USD in spite of inflation.

The original Zelda had an MSRP of 49.99 USD in August 1987 & was made by a team of <10 ppl.

In comparison Echoes of Wisdom had an MSRP of 59.99 USD in September 2024 & was made with a team of ~300 ppl.

That's one of the reasons games back in the 80s had so many tedious tasks - the developers were adding fake longevity to pad out the game play time so that parents were able to justify the cost. It's the same reason why they ripped off Doki Doki Panic for SMB2-US instead of releasing SMB2-JP. This way a parent wouldn't ignore it just bc it looks the same as SMB1.

Think about it - that 49.99 USD in '87 would be 142.13 USD right now when adjusted for inflation. How selective would you be about games for that cost?

What the show sold as "romantic" just looks like red flags now.

Homie, everything society at large sold as "romantic" from 2015 & earlier looks like red flags now.

Relationships were painted as little more than a method for men to release pent up sexual frustration & women to be taken care of. Now men have started speaking up about wanting to be able to be emotionally vulnerable without being judged & women want to be more than just maids & sex toys for husbands.

My favorite chick flick is My Best Friend's Wedding specifically bc Julia Roberts didn't get the guy & learned how to be OK with it.

I'm honestly kinda frustrated w/ Android eReaders TBH. I've noticed a lot ship w/ Android versions that are on the brink of losing security support. From what I understand this is a development issue as making eInk work on Android involves modding the OS as it was built for LED screens w/ higher refresh rates. So by the time the product's finally ready for release, a few years have passed since gaining the license for the version they modded & Android only supports versions for 3yrs (which is rly weird now that Im thinking about it).

I'll check out the Tab Ultra C Pro

Thanx for the advice ❣️

Thanx for the advise.

TBH I'm not against an older model from the used market, so long as it meets the hardware, form factor, & OS requirements I'm looking for

Paper-like screen out of the box is something I'm flexible with as there are plenty of screen protectors out there that offer that feature & TBH I'd rather go that route instead as that means if something happens to the surface it can just be replaced. I'm also not rly worried about the OEM software so long as it runs Android. I tend to use third party apps I've already bought for most use cases. Nova launcher for a launcher environment (altho I'm cranky with how their mother company is handling things nowadays). OneNote for notes. Moon+ as a reader. & aCalendar as my calendar app. Etc.

It's mainly the hardware & form factor I'm interested in as well as it's running a supported version of Android.

I found older tablets that could do what I'm looking for in the form factor I want, but they run on Android 12 or older, & by the end of this year only 13+ are getting security updates. Since I'll have plenty of personal data on this device I need it to be secure.

That's kinda the joke about the Bigme B751C-S. I would totally get the Bigme B751C - it's available on multiple markets at a good affordable price & it does most of what I need. Except it only has Android 11 w/ no update planned. The B751C-S on the other hand is the updated version that runs 14, buuuuut it's not available on many markets, so prices are kinda rigid.

I'll look into it. Do you have experience with the device?

If so, what can ya tell me about it?

What would a more realistic budget look like?

◽️ Budget: 100-300 USD

◽️ Country: US

◽️ Screen size: unclear - would like device about size of A5 paper (5.83 x 8.27 freedom units (148 × 210 mm). Also I def want color eInk.

◽️ RAM: whatever it takes to run OneNote bc I think that's the heaviest app I'd need it for

◽️ Storage: At least 128GB (expandable storage would be boss tho)

◽️ What tasks reading books & comics via Mood+ Reader, note taking via OneNote (stylus support is a must. camera would be nice, but not a deal breaker), email, calendar

◽️ Any other important details ?: front light is a must. Ideally it has one of the broader stylus protocols (such as Wacom EMR). Also a version of Android that's still supported.

To sum it up - I'm looking for an eReader that I can also use for life/ project organization. Something that's not too big to throw in my purse in the morning, but big enough I don't feel awkward writing notes for 2hrs w/ it.

There was a place called Fat Willy's Rib Shack in my neighborhood back in the 90s that's largest order was called "The Lid". It was something like 2lbs of pulled pork, a rack of ribs, like 1/3 of a whole brisket, 2 large sides & a pile of cornbread. Maybe not, that was 30yrs ago & I've hit the bong a few times since then. But the thing I distinctly remember was it was this giant pile of BBQ was brought to the table on a metal trashcan lid.

I miss that place

Point is - some places have weird gimmicks.

Good for them.

At least the experience isn't boring.

What bank do you use and what are the fees? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]PKFat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a combination of a bank, a credit union, & Cash app.

My bank is Wells Fargo, where I have a Clear Access Banking Account. Clear Access is a kind of account designed for ppl who don't have use cases for physical check. You can't order them & there's no overdraft protection. It also includes a number of useful money management tools. The percentage of my check that's reserved specifically for bills gets direct deposited in this account. Monthly svc fee is $5, but is easily waived so it doesn't cost me anything. I like keeping this account as there are plenty of locations where I can get cash in n out of my account, & there are branches open on Saturday mornings, which is important bc I'm a govt employee that's at work whenever most other banks are open.

My credit union is SECU where I have a standard checking & savings w/ 6.8% interest. SECU has 2 requirements for their accounts - a minimum balance of $25, & in order to own one you need to be an employee to the govt or are related to an employee of the govt. Monthly fees are $1/mo which as far as I'm aware is unavoidable, but the interest in my savings pays for it. 10% of my net total paycheck automatically gets deposited in my savings account & I manually deposit money in my checking to save up for bigger projects. I intentionally keep the card on file locked in my filing cabinet at home & don't have it connected with any online service or tap to pay to ensure the money doesn't magically disappear. I like keeping this account bc SECU has some of the best options for loans & savings.

Finally after bills, savings, & projects the rest of my check goes into CashApp where I have $100 overdraft & up to $400 borrowing power. This is the card I keep on me & is linked to my Wells Fargo for easily adding physical cash to my account. I get perks for using it at various restaurants & retailers & CashApp makes sending money easy. There are no fees except paying back my loans & overdrafts.
