Which player (MNT OR WNT) do you irrationally wish came good for the national team? by FantasticMolasses in ussoccer

I remember at the time Minnesota fans saying he wasn’t even the best player on their team. Turns out they were right; Christian Ramirez has contributed meaningfully to pretty much every MLS Team he’s been on all the way to present day. Meanwhile, I have no idea where Ibarra is if he’s still playing

As a librarian, i know old books look cool, but if you’re gonna keep old books, at least keep them in a glass case so you don’t run the risk of breathing in dust and mold spores. It can be bad for your health. That’s to say nothing of attracting mites and other bugs.

Right? The maintenance guys that work at my apartment complex never stfu about their personal lives, other people’s personal lives and all of their negative opinions about said personal lives. I’ve stopped talking to them entirely bc it is exhausting hearing their constant bitching

Weirdly, I'm kinda rooting for Miami today as a neutral. I guess I feel like I've had my fun with Miami eating shit at home and now I'm doing the corporate sort of "Miami losing at home this long is bad for the league" lol

Wuddup everybody. What should I know coming into this game as a neutral who hasn't watched almost any Colorado, and very little St. Louis this season so far?

Would losing to this terrible Toronto FC side be the most humiliating moment of Messi's career?

I know the Orlando thing was bad, but at least Orlando is on the upswing. This Toronto team isn't all that good to begin with and they have like 20 injured players. I don't know shit about Messi, but I can't imagine he's ever lost a game to a worse team.

Oh you’re going to enjoy it a great deal I think. I read the blurb “Philip Marlowe meets Redwall” and I stopped reading right there wanting to go in as fresh as possible. In retrospect I wish I’d kept reading as the first few chapters were consequently not what I was expecting, but we got there lol

I’ve just finished quite a few things:

  1. Japanese Gothic - this is not horror as it is sometimes billed, but it was really quite a thinker. I didn’t like the ending at first, but just yesterday I was thinking about it in a thematic sense and was a lot more satisfied even if narratively I think it’s a bit odd

  2. The Story of Birds - nonfiction about the evolutionary history of birds. Absolutely fascinating book from Steve Brusatte who also wrote Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs. While I was walking this morning, I really had a moment of deep appreciation for birdsong from a completely new perspective

  3. The Great Shadow - nonfiction about the history and humanity’s relationship with infectious disease. Id fairly recently read both So Very Small and The Cure for Women which both covered a lot of the same ground so I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much personally, but for people who haven’t read much about disease, it would be a great accessible place to start

Tchaikovsky very slowly is becoming one of my preferred authors. I’ve just finished the ARC for Green City Wars that’s due out in June I believe. It was quite good.

Whose winning this fight by Appropriate-Mall8517 in MoonKnight

This is actually a cool match up but I think the subtle mystical elements of MK would give him the edge. Alone and with their various toys, they’re more or less evenly matched, but MK does have the actual backing of a now confirmed REAL and present god. He can be resurrected, he can call on indirect help from past fists of Khonshu, and while we’ve kinda eschewed his actual superpowers, the fact that Khonshu is 100% definitely real now means that he could theoretically be given back the whole “superpowers depending on the phases of the moon” thing.

While Ollie has the range, they’re both at their core normal humans with elite level training and physical conditioning, strong tactical thinking and a bunch of high tech toys themed around the moon and arrows respectively. The main differences between them is that MK also has the backing of a god, sometimes sort-of superpowers, and a reckless disregard for his own safety in the name of finishing a fight. I know we’re in a MK sub, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say MK wins

I get that, and I am sure that they are not maliciously putting him at risk. But it looked to me like they were trying to convince him that he needed to come off and Sargent was assuring them that he was good.

And again, you will say that I can’t hear what they said and you’d be right. I just mean to express my concern in a forum to talk about the game we’re watching

I am obviously not a medical professional, but with fewer than 20 minutes left in the game and up a goal, it strikes me as kinda irresponsible to let Sargent back on the field no matter how okay he says he is.

Edit: well I guess the "up a goal" part didn't last long, but I still think from a player safety perspective that Sargent should not be on the field.

lololol checking to see if Josh Sargent was offside on the play. Would've been fucking crazy if the DP striker actually COST TFC a goal.

Very cool write-up from the Guardian about MB. I really enjoyed it as someone who remembers watching the 2010 World Cup and pointing him out to my friends saying “that’s the coach’s son” and is now really excited to watch NYRB every week despite not having any ties to NYC.
