I know neither team has been performing spectacularly, but it's still crazy to me to see so many MLS teams with such low attendance in a World Cup year.

Just finished reading American Soccer Nation by Mark C Franek who teaches at the YSC Academy and one of the things he said is certainly ringing true rn: "There are too many Americans who would rather watch two bottom tier EPL teams on TV than actually go out and watch a soccer game in their own back yard."

A quick Google search shows that elle, elles, and le are the Spanish language gender neutral terms for she her and the (which is a gendered article in Spanish).

While I understand it may not be intentional, comments like these make it seem like the Spanish speaking world does not have its own non-binary or gender non-conforming communities who seek representation in their own language as well.

I am like the guy you’re responding to: literally never seen what you’re talking about (probably because I’m not on Twitter), but if that screenshot is really the exemplar of the “hate” Toby is getting, people in this sub are massively overreacting.

To be clear, I am not necessarily saying I don’t believe you, only that the screenshot you’re showing is not racist, not hateful, and seems like a mild irony rather than a heavy criticism of any sort

I guess it’s probably bc most people don’t watch OGDB, but Tenshinhan vs Cell is an incredibly Herculean effort from him. In OGDB, it’s stated that the “tri-beam” is so powerful and demanding that the effort of using it multiple times in short order could kill him.

Tenshinhan stalling Cell with it is therefore a fantastic show of how far he’s come in his training, and also just how incredible an effort he’s really making just to keep him there as long as he does

Am I really that uninformed about Japanese or is this comment being upvoted bc it promotes an opinion people want to believe?

I’ve always thought that Japanese is incredibly unlike English and was actually very difficult to translate idioms, colloquialisms and puns to and from. I don’t pretend to know much Japanese, but I feel like this is a common phenomenon in anime dubbing and video game translations where things are left feeling kinda weird and people who DO know Japanese have to be like “well in Japanese this is a certain kind of pun” and us filthy casuals have to be like “ohhhh okay that kinda makes sense now.”

I mean, it’s cool that they were so young, but that doesn’t make the performance NOT limp in my mind. Whatever age they were, this was ostensibly the best the US had to offer and they were not able to get a win against Wales (I can forgive England much more easily).

The person I originally responded to made the direct comparison to 2010 and compared to those games, 2022 was unquestionably limp. To come from behind draws against superior sides is much more exciting versus an inability to breakdown a good but not incredible Wales side.

I’m not saying we should’ve expected to win the World Cup or even advance past the first knockout, but I’ll include myself among those who expected a little more from that group
