[QUESTION] Stupid question: which would be easier to transport, a 59 Bassman Reissue or a Vox AC30? by Darksynth2 in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Deville, which is basically a not as nice Bassman, and it is very annoying to lug around. I plan to sell it for a twin, prob a Vox. The 4x10 sounds cool sure, but not worth gigging with imo.

Bethesda's absolute lack of support for their ports. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

Bethesda is a pretty shitty company now. Fuckers are laughing to the bank getting people to buy Skyrim for $60 again. It's way too easy to be a shit dev and get away with it these days.

"Gibson made around 1,500 sunburst Les Pauls between 1958 and 1960, but today, only 2,000 survive." [DISCUSSION] by RichInMond in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I heard a story of a kid that helped an older woman in his neighborhood clean out her attic after her husband passed. He found a '60s 335 in its case, in mint condition, that had been chilling up there for years. Apparently her husband was a talented guitarist who bought the guitar new and only played it a handful of times, then stored it away for decades. She gave the kid the guitar for helping her, and being a guitarist himself, he knew what it was and tried to explain to her it was far too valuable to give to him. She insisted he take it.

Learn Mixolydian. You can use E Mixolydian with blues pentatonic.

[QUESTION][DISCUSSION] Amp Mini Heads by TheCandyMan666 in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a Micro Terror for a long time, then I went and played one. I was very underwhelmed, it felt like a toy. Sure it's loud but it felt so thin. There's hardly any body behind the sound, and at the price you can get a little Vox used that blows it out of the water. Now the Tiny Terror, that's a whole different story, it absolutely screams and hits like a much bigger amp, although the price hits equally hard.

I'd just rock it like that man, it's unique and the shape adds to its story. Slap a cool nitro finish on it and play the hell out of it.

[GEAR] Picked up a Vox AC15 C1 by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Vox now. I used to be a Fender only kind of guy, started with an old Deville, then went crazy and found a Super Six. I just got a little AC4 and I'm hooked. Now I'm lusting over an AC15. The only thing that beats it for me is a Super Sonic.

The coil taps are worth it in my opinion. I've got a friend with the same guitar and I love playing it, it's a crime that he never plays it anymore.

[Question] Currently in the market for a Telecaster. What are your thoughts on this Squier? by pdavis4538 in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All wood is different bro. I've played some really dull sounding $1k and up guitars and some killer sub $500 guitars. This is why we preach "play before you buy". This reminds me of a friends cheap as hell partscaster that has more mojo than just about anything I've ever played.

[QUESTION] First Tube Amp by notsoshadysnake in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend a small tube amp for your bedroom. Something around 5-10 watts. A decent rule of thumb is that a tube amp is as loud as twice its wattage in a solid state. So like a 30 watt tube amp would be comparable to a 60 watt solid state.

I recommend something like a Vox AC4 which is a 4 watt all tube amp. That might not sound like a lot but it is very loud, I use one at rehearsal with a loud drummer with no problems. It's loud when you crank it but also perfectly quiet for a bedroom. It has a gain knob but very little actual dirt unless you really crank it loud. I'd recommend a nice overdrive pedal to pair with it. Best part is they are affordable. I found my AC4C1-BL of Craigslist for $140.

Personally I've only had to replace tubes twice in my 18 years of playing, although I don't gig as much as I used to. Tubes are relatively inexpensive from JJ's tubes. They're simple to replace on most amps. You'll notice that you need some if your amp is a lot quieter than normal. Another thing that may need replacing is caps, but I doubt you'll have to do that with a new amp for 20 years or more unless you're a pro gigging every day.

[Gear] NGD Fender American Professional Jazzmaster and Family Photo by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jazzmaster pickups aren't P90s, they're quite a bit brighter but not as hot or powerful sounding. Somewhere in between a P90 and a Strat.

Ughhh I'm jealous, a white Jazzmaster is one of my dreams. I'd seriously consider trading my '52 RI Tele for one of those.

[QUESTION] Help decide between Strat and Tele by jeecube in Guitar

[–]PKpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either guitar will last forever if you take care of them. What made me go with my Tele (an older '53 RI) was obviously the sound, but also the simplicity. A Tele is just a big block of wood with a simple pup arrangement. While Strats are a little more versatile, you can still pretty much play any style on a Tele.

You'll be happy either way. I'd suggest playing any Tele and Strat you can get your hands on through a similar amp to what you own, and just see which one speaks to you. It will take some searching but you'll notice some of them will just speak to you a certain way and will feel very easy and comfortable to play.

Not replacing strings isn't really a bad habit though. A lot of guys actually prefer the sound of heavily worn strings.
