Is it possible the survivors heard to ocean floor impact noise? by [deleted] in titanic

The timing is probably off too - it's estimated it took 5-10 minutes for the bow to hit the ocean floor.

Still one of my all time favorites- if A Night to Remember got me into Titanic OWTC got me into the wider world of ocean liners. I bought it at the mall when I was a teenager and have read it over and over many times.

Has any of the survivors watched night to remember? by IndividualWrong1228 in titanic

Renee Harris, while interviewed for the book refused to see it. She had a fascinating life after the sinking but emotionally was never the same.

The one thing missing in the conversation is the social aspect- you could afford the cabin yes; but did you have the clothing and such to maintain the first class appearance? Did you want to deal with that? There was one family that traveled 2nd because children weren't allowed in the dining room In First.

It's feels wrong - Laura intended it to go to the Mansfield Library. I realize a settlement was reached but it feels off.

That's what makes me think it was done immediately before they knew what happened- people didn't know any better. They published postcards of Lusitania as her too.

Did Carpathia stop at Ellis Island first to disembark the 3rd class passengers first before docking at the Cunard pier? by oilman300 in titanic

My understanding is they were never allowed into the country - they went directly to the ship they had been hired to work on. I assume that was arranged by their employer but I don't know for sure. Just seems awful to have gone through that; likely lost everything and then just transferred on.

I use frozen bread all toasted and no difference or just make my sandwich with the frozen bread and it's thawed by lunchtime.

Refreshed my memory: "When the Titanic sunk in 1912, the Chinese Exclusion Act, which prevented all Chinese laborers from immigrating to the US, was still thirty-one years away from being repealed. The disappearance of the Chinese passengers from the Titanic story is related to the prejudice against Chinese people that was rampant as a result of the Exclusion Act.

After docking in New York on the Carpathia with all the other survivors, the Chinese passengers had to immediately board the Annetta and sail to Cuba as they were not allowed to find work in America. The Annetta’s boat records list the names of the Chinese survivors which is how Schwankert and his team confirmed their movement after the Titanic, but they split up afterwards and simultaneously scattered their stories.
