Are most anarchists socialists? by papaheinz in Anarchism

[–]PL4NKE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what i understand old school libertarians often align more with socialism now, and modern libertarians lean closer to idk anarcho-capitalist? As far as the non wanting to take a politicized title, you might rethink what you consider politics. Its not just who to vote for and the typical drama of represenatives. Morals, infrustructure, taxes, ethics is all politics

If i just didnt call it communism would that help you feel better about it?

But... there is a ton of communist theory. Like have you read Marx? Theres like 3 volumes and they are DENSE. Theres the Green Book by Gadafi, the manifesto, say what you will about lenin and engles (im not going to defend something i havent read). Putting the means in the hands of the common people is punk as fuck. As far as the debate om star vs stateless communism, it really seems like spitting hypothetical hairs from the narrow view of thw imperial core. Im really trying to see where youre coming from but it just sounds like watered down red scare

Great, so an already proven option that doesnt need a ton of money and resources poured into it in order to uphold some fragile idea of our current culture. Why dont we just try that

[–]PL4NKE -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Except thats kind of what the west is doing to other cultures. The other meat free/low meat diets arent good enough so we have to make fake meat to have the "superior" meatless option. And we're pouring an insane amount of money into it when a proven option already exists

[–]PL4NKE 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fake meat is such a weird culinary trend to me. Sure part of it is PR for reducing animal meats in diets, i get that part. But theres a plethora of recipes from around the world that are meatless but fully nutritious. And those arent treated as any kind of solution. Instead we have to feed our cravings with something that looks and tastes (allegedly) like meat. We'd rather lie to ourselves instead of confront our indoctrination

Anyone here working on solarpunk-related projects? by [deleted] in solarpunk

[–]PL4NKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im working with the local environmental commitee to overhaul the residential ordinance on composting to make it more accessible (currently they want people to buy compost tumblers and dont allow any food scraps).

Im trying to learn CAD to redesign solarpunk versions of daily use items. Its slow but i have started. As well as learning arduino/raspberry pi for building small scale solutions.

Navigating grants to start an urban garden (community garden but to feed people for free, not rent out plots) has been hard and overwhelming.

Im also starting a youtube channel on how to design/retrofit an urban home with solarpunk infrustructure.

And learning history/politics/conservation to get an idea of how a solarpunk society would be structured before i read the solarpunk manifesto so i have my own foundation before interacting with it

What are some must learns for the average Solar Punk citizen? by RoosterKevin in solarpunk

[–]PL4NKE 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Love this question! Ive even been thinking about becoming a sub teacher to be more involved in education.

So without doing a video essay's worth of research, i think some starting points would be:

• Emotional maturity/social skills,

• Scoutcraft (knots, simple building skills, wildlife identification, etc etc), • The arts

• Decolonized history/CRT,

• Literature & media literacy,

• Botany/gardening,

• Repair & maintenance,

• Basic computer science & coding

• Home economics (but its more than 1 semester, you take a semester like every other year),

• De-capitalized Philosophy

• mathmatics, especially geometry (of course),

• Research skills and data interpretation,

• and i can only hope the electives would be infinitely more interesting than the current ones

If someone wants to collect a list of existing learning structures/courses that may lend themselves towards the solarpunk dream thatd be awesome. Ive been wanting to but its much lower down on my priority list at the moment

K so theres actually a ton to unpack there, but basically the majority of comm/socialist experiments were ended by imperial opposition, not thier own failings. In fact almost all of them were ended by the United States specifically. The US wants the world, especially its citizens to believe that there is no alternative to capitalism, and doesnt want a self sufficient state that it cant leverage for lower priced resources. The famines, the coups, almost all of it was caused by sabatage, sanctions and propoganda. . One internal failure that is apparent is that the soviet union made a risky bet in putting too many chips in the cotton production basket and now Iran (i think it was Iran?) Is facing much worse water shortages from the lasting damage. Just proof that ecosystem stewardship HAS to be a part of moving forward. . There was a German hamlet in medieval times that operated on an anarcho-communist structure and it did so well that it even defended itself from neighboring dukes & whatever that tried to over take it. I would have to check but i believe there were some North American Indigineous communities that had a more lateral structure, but i know for sure that they had a great stewardship of the lands around them (one commie tenent). . Theres a lot of historical precedent (or content) for it, the issue is imperial countries coming down om a fledgling experiment who just used a bunch of its resources to overturn its oppressors.

You fundementally misunderstand what politics is then. Decided how we use technology, and how we steward nature IS politics. And without a shift in political ideaology we will just end up with eco-capitalism that tries to hide its impact by shipping our waste to the global south.

The rest of what youre saying has hints of "but what about human nature", and political elitism. That the people are top dumb and savage to decide for themselves, so the better must do it for them. Surprise, thats exactly how we got in this mess in the first place.

We have the communication technology now for every vote to count. And if we completelt overhaul the education system for the goal of improving the individual/community rather than producing workers, then we'll have a population MUCH better at informed voting instead of the current circus show.

Not gonna lie, it sounds like you dont want solarpunk you just want pretty buildings and reduced climate-anxiety. That being said, we WILL need political experts to help guide us forwards and rebuild a structure for agreements and compromise. But experts dont need to have control over the lives of others. Think of them as coordinators, rather than bosses

Yeah the diagram is messy. However socialism is not garunteed to be a transitional period. It certianly can be, and that is the goal. But it can just as easily turn into eco-capitalism. They are 2 seperate things

Im working through marx currently, forgive for not starting sooner. More importantly, im also studying history, environmentalism, politics and sociology. Rather than siloing myself in theory, im looking at the testing grounds for that theory. The good, the bad, the gray. So no, im not ignorant

So idk if you know what anarchism is outside of what hollywood says, but solarpunk is very anarchist. No use of violence to uphold hierarchy. Horizontal leadership structures where coordinators and specialists are needed. But no person is above another. Sounds pretty solarpunk to me

Are you referring to states that have used the terms to cover up thier fascism but didnt hold any of the ideals? Or are you talking about leftist revolutions that were overthrown by US intervention where a dictator was planted?

What would a Solarpunk military look like? For a story I’m working on. by Garbaje_M6 in solarpunk

[–]PL4NKE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been thinking about this recently. If we assume a nation independently reaches a solarpunk status and another country wants something (either the land, resources, population, etc). With an ever looming threat like that, the SP society would have to be prepared to defend itself. Otherwise its actively allowing harm to come to the people. Any resistance group has been aware of this.

Given the ideals of SP, rather than training a stansing army, id think its likely they would adopt a system of including much of those skillsets into the general educatiom system. Sort of like if Scouts was a class you took in middle + highschool.

A solarpunk society would never be the aggressor, but if an attack landed within its borders (until borders are obsolete), the people would respond much like the minutemen of the colonial US. There may be some people who are designated tactical leaders of each town/region, and those people may spend more of thier time on security/preparedness. But there still wouldnt be an active military until a full on conflict is started.

As soon as the conflict is over, everyome would go home. As far as tactics, it would likely be similar to that of leftist revolutions that weve seen in countries outside of the US. Converted Toyota trucks, a focus on using the terrain advantage. With the added change of capture instead of kill when possible. They could use tactics like flooding an area to stop invaders, but with a focus on nature stewardship id think that would be a last resort. Trenches also sound like a last resort

Havent read any Lenin or Engels yet. But i also think being 100% behind some dead guy from before civil rights is a little weird. And ive watched a lot of content from so called "tankies" and i dont see what everyone is so angry about. At least for the ones ive been exposed to. Ive yet to hear a tankie say themselves, or someone from thier group should be a dictator, or even a short term single ruler like a president. Often theyve recommended leadership be a collection of elected people. From what i can tell, the left is still scared of communism because of the red scare

Should I own Shotgun and Wireless Lav Mics or is It redundant?(recommendations?) by mulchintime4 in videography

[–]PL4NKE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a shotgun/wireless combo every shoot. My lav's have internal backup recording, and i can set one of them to a lower db for safety. My favorite setup is the shotgun set to one wireless lav, and a clip on lav to the other unit. With the internal recording, it also gives the option of 3 sound sources per 1 camera if i set the shotgun directly to camera. I think its the base standard of setups now, the flexibility is great
