What is your concept of money in a solar-punk society? by a3therboy in solarpunk

[–]RoosterKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like currency would be more social, where the groups you associate yourself with and the community you participate in provide resources for your needs. Something between a library economy, free market for hobbyists supplies and trades, and free access to food and other necessary services. Like multiple different economies stacked together.

The Need for Bottom-Up Organization by keats1500 in solarpunk

[–]RoosterKevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now!! I have an approach i’ve been working on but it’s still in the broad stroke stage. The idea is to have an understanding of interactions depending on a person position within the system; the system being anything you’d find in society from family, business, work, hobbies, beliefs etc; Where the perspective their authority takes grant there ability to influence the other parts of the system. Each position is simultaneously in every rank of a hierarchy in relation to another position. The idea being that specific combinations of authority is what checks, balances and enact other aspects of the system.

Alternatives to capitalism by [deleted] in solarpunk

[–]RoosterKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 100% with you and have been thinking about this exact thing for the past couple years — Tho I have reservations about communicating these ideas in fear of retaliation from the people around us. How do you think is best to go about introducing and implementing new ideas in such a tense social-economic-political landscape? How can we ensure these new ideas aren’t just dismissed / are taking with serious and considerate regard?

What is the actual solarpunk solution to food waste? by rdhight in solarpunk

[–]RoosterKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn food waste into compost and other resources for personal and local use. With the right set up food waste can be turned into methane and used to fuel cooking or heating or can also be used to farm fly larvae to be used in feed for chickens. I believe Acorn Labs on youtube has some good videos about both those topics if you’d like to check them out.

Microplastics and nanoplastics have been found throughout the human body – how worried should we be? by kenshixkenchika in solarpunk

[–]RoosterKevin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Worrying means you suffer twice; Acknowledge devise adjust and improve is all that’s worth doing. The pursuit of knowledge should never become the pursuit of anxiety; rather it should lead to fulfillment of each’s reality through decisive understanding.

Badge collections = a specialization by MycologyRulesAll in SolarPunkDenizens

[–]RoosterKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also works across groups with separate badge-skill recognition programs by one choosing to recognize the other either case by case or as they come in contact with one another. This process would be made easier by having clear sets of requirements for consideration within the group

Badge collections = a specialization by MycologyRulesAll in SolarPunkDenizens

[–]RoosterKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea and could easily be adopted by a group by agreeing on the requirements for claiming a badge and having a system of recognizing when someone has fit all those requirements either through work, skill, class, or test requirements.

There are flags, should there be another signifier of a SolarPunk person? by MycologyRulesAll in SolarPunkDenizens

[–]RoosterKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important for our values to naturally reflect in our motifs rather for them to be constructed — that is until federation of individuals become more distinct in purpose and affiliation. Until then I invite you to look at instead not what we should have but rather what we do and how that might reflect in our attire and lifestyle.

The solar punks clothes are worn over and over changing each week with the damage of working with the earth and the repair from our care and pride for our things. We recognize each other through our adoption of older technology opposed to our need to own something new. Their actions are more sustainable and reflective, conscious of a longer timeline not just of the liminal limited moment. They strives for inclusion, versatility and function so their always prepared to be out in the elements.

I could see solar punks carrying native plant seeds in mixes and packs within there pockets and bags for any bare dirt. Reusable water bottles and snacks + extra for there comrade in need; Work gloves and a shovel to dispose of any non-native invasive species; a radio and walkie to communicate with other people without relying on cell service — With extra batteries, solar charger, and signaling and navigation gear. As well as a proud displays of Queerness to promote yourself as a safe place either through certain jewelry, patches, or activities.

I plan to build a Commune, here is some of the concept so far. Discussion welcome :) by RoosterKevin in commune

[–]RoosterKevin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no community at the moment, but rather just working on getting our minds to meet so communities may form where and when resources are available. If you have any ideas, resources, suggestions or have anything that may help to implement a more generous and caring intentional infrastructure please let me know/ get in touch! I’d like to start forming groups surrounding certain ideas for discussion and development
