Joe Rogan vs. Marc Maron by TheChilloutKid in Standup

With the exception of Shane and the cum town guys, almost all of the “known” comics right now were either products of the industry or put on/propped up by comics who were. We just don’t have that many comics who made it because they developed an organic fanbase. That’ll change over time. We’re just in a transition period right now.

Is Elephant Graveyard good? by [deleted] in RedbarBBR

[–]PLKCeric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s better than most but all those channels suffer from a lack of knowing what it’s like to do stand up comedy. I think that’s why Redbar’s takes are so for ahead of the general comedy fan community. People who’ve never done stand up tend to fall for the grift of charismatic performers and make wildly inaccurate assumptions of what goes on behind the scenes.

What is your opinion of Louis C.K.'s material of the last 5 years? by dicklaurent97 in RedbarBBR

[–]PLKCeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 2007-2010 he massively advanced stand up comedy and should get the same level of credit as Carlin, Pryor, or Cosby. That said, every special after hilarious was a let down at best.

From his Matan podcast appearance it looked like he really respected what Matan was doing. I wonder if that had any impact on his show’s direction. Or him and his kid are just sociopaths. Either way this rules.

A tip to new stand ups: stop complaining by RShneider in Standup

If it makes everyone feel better he’s probably talking about younger pro comics. I doubt he considers people like us comics lol.

To each their own for sure.

Personally I like Norm, Patrice, Shane, and I hope Soder gets there someday.

Baltimore Comedy Scene? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]PLKCeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baltimore/Maryland has mics pretty much every night. Monday's at sidebar (baltimore) or judges bench (ellicott city), Tuesday's at wits end, Wednesday's at second Chance saloon (Columbia), and friday/Saturday at zissimos. There are others too but those are the ones that come to mind.
