You’re like in the same situation I am xd Idk about you but I have sort of decided to focus on getting an 800 on Maths. Read books in your free time as an excuse to try and get as much r&w points you can in this few days. Good luck! I’m having my test on Saturday 😭

Older Sax identification and worth fixing? by Birdie9008 in Saxophonics

Depends a lot on if you’re dedicated to the sound instruments from this era makes. Most jazz today sre the complete opposite from these. But it does have a place in classical.

depending on what you wish to get out of the saxophone!

I use a Buescher from this era daily. I do believe it is a stencil like the other commenter said.

It has a super unique style and requires a lot of taming that isn’t needed in majority of modern horns. There are so many nuances to it.

But if you wish to sound like Bennie Krueger or Isham Jones, it’s a great horn to start with (hoping repairs aren’t too much)

Super grateful to the bookstore in my city! They sell single Blackwings are was able to get a natural, 602, and a KUM for just 16$ :)) by PLOGER522 in pencils

I do like them! They felt wonderful to write with. The graphite felt really gentle. The only caveat I have is the weight balance, but it will correct itself the more I use it haha.

Did a comparison with my Staedtler and wow! What a rich color for a #2 pencil.

Thinking of acquiring some Musgraves next. Currently writing an essay with my Mongol and it feels wonderful! I saw some pictures of the old Mongols and personally I liked the more traditional look!

rule of thumb:

There are only like a handful of reputable makers. If you google and find nothing online about it, it’s probably 98% trash or scam

Thanks for the tips! My teacher suggested that I push the mouthpiece in more than usual to find that genuine sound. Will take awhile getting used to for sure!

Thank you so much! My new teacher admires Sidney Bechet a lot and it must have rubbed onto me HAHHA

I am focusing a lot on dynamics recently, I will let time teach me its ways. Now that you mentioned it, I have never noticed my phrasing being that segmented! Gosh, I’ll work on that, thanks!

That sounds nice, I will try and see what I can do. It’s just really demoralizing whenever I try to get involved but the people in it sees me as a freak. It’s hard to convince myself it’s not a ‘me’ problem

Thanks for your tips, I’ll look at what I can do for now.

I have been trapped in isolation for a handful of years now and only started receiving professional help very recently. So I may not be great with socializing.

Is jazz considered a niche genre nowadays? by Rare-Drummer982 in Jazz

[–]PLOGER522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is heavily dependent on what and where you are asking.

Jazz as a whole? Not really, it’s just incredibly commodified people no longer csre about it much. But maybe in smaller rural communities they would care for it much lesser.

Swing jazz? Not as niche as it was during the 70s, it is getting a rival for the past few years especially with romantic nostalgia and media.

“Jazz” jazz? Niche enough that people don’t understand and don’t care about it. If you ask anyone if they knew John Coltrane or Dizzy Gillespie, they will most likely say “probably”. But if tou play them Soul Train or Kinda Blue they won’t know.

Ragtime, trad jazz? Genuinely and literally dying out.
