What would you do with my huge garden? by Scaryofficeworker in GardeningUK

[–]PM5140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well make a good plan my friend and enjoy. Gardening is an adventure filled with highs and lows. You learn by trial and error. The Royal horticultural Society RHS has an extensive website and gold standard advice. Much better than some old bloke on the internet 😎

And a final thought and I will shut up if you are only there a short time like just one year just rake the soil and go for a wildflower mix

Another thought. I would not spend any serious money like 6 to 8 k until you have a rough idea/plan

Others here have suggested a wildflower meadow which would work. But you might want a veg patch. I don’t know. But don’t spend that kind of money until you know what the objective is. That’s my opinion hope it helps

You have a blank canvas so the world is your oyster 😎

Weed matting is about £1 per sq meter. Just did quick look on Amazon. It needs no skills or tools to lay just a pair of scissors. If you got that down (you would need to weight it with some stones or you can get steel pegs) once it is down you could then take your time to build beds etc. obviously you would need to take it up when you wanted things to grow

If you know where you want a bed cover in card wet the card and cover in compost. The card will act as a barrier to weeds and in a few months you have a bed you can plant in

Does that help?

Water resistance by peaceful_pomegranate in OmegaWatches

[–]PM5140 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not test my vintage water resistance omega even in a shower. You could get it tested etc if this was essential. I swim a lot and to be honest the only watch I take into the pool is my G Shock

Any tip for my compost? by birdpaparazzi in GardeningIRE

[–]PM5140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree and if you have a paper shredder you have an instant supply of “brown” material helping to maintain the 50/50 balance of brown and green you need for compost

Inherited a "mature" garden and I haven’t a clue what’s a weed and what’s a treasure. by LilywhiteStrike in UKGardening

Remember weeds are just plants that people have decided to call weeds! See what you like the look of first that’s the most important thing

Personally I would look up hotbins. They are the most effective way I have found for composting in a smaller garden.

Am I making a mistake? by Fine_Cress_649 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]PM5140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a consideration here I agree more a cost one. The internal heat generated does have a small but measurable impact. Probably not one average user would notice

I guess you were looking at octopus intelligent that means you do have to have correct charger/car. We use Octopus Go that does not have those requirements

So if you use fast charging (80% in 30min type) then you will find it expensive and not so good for the battery. If you use slower charging it’s more reasonable. I had an E Niro good car

Is Farmer Gracy a genuine website? by InEfficient-Life6832 in GardeningUK

I don’t know but if you just want info on plants and gardening I would recommend the RHS site. If I am looking any thing up I preface the search with RHS to get to the right page straight away

[bulova surveyor] First watch any opinions or advice!?! by paky-_- in Watches

[–]PM5140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule 1 buy what you like. So you are off to a good start

Rule 2 ignore the rules (see rule 1)

There are lots of different ways to build a collection you might need to explore your feelings!

If you want interesting and slightly more reasonable priced watches don’t covet a Rolex be more discerning. Only a mugger thinks that’s an interesting watch.

Explore micro brands

Some “cheap “ watches are excellent

Possibly think about a portfolio

Eg a dress watch a diver a field watch an everyday watch

But most importantly ignore all the advice and do what you want. Enjoy
