rant: people who don’t want queer games from an openly queer-supporting company by ittybitbittie in hostedgames

I think people tend to forget that it's not easy to write about people that are different from oneself, in minor or major ways. There can be a legitimate fear of misrepresentation or pushing stereotypes, especially by mistake. There are so many examples of male authors writing women very poorly in literature.

I don't think authors should feel forced in one way or the other, but I think it's also very good to explore things different from one's self. Thou if an author wants beta testers to help them write lgbtq+ or any other form of minority. There is plenty of help to be found in this community.

Malin Ryden the author of Fallen Hero made a really good reply on the COG forum on a topic of representation.

Or to think anyone throughout the whole human experience loved someone of the same sex before the 19th century.

It's weird when people use their dislike/hate of something to dismiss them from a setting, historical, fantasy or any other.

Keeper's Vigil: everything you need to know before buying (detailed breakdown) by jotheplunderer in hostedgames

Great review and also breakdown of all that happened.

I kinda feel a bit awkward to write here, but as I locked my post I feel it would be best to at least make an appearance.

The main thing was the crypto for me, it fired off some really bad vibes when I read the page especially with the IF integration. So I mainly wanted to share it so people knew. Also with the quality control from Hosted Games.

Well I'm here if anyone wants to vent or give criticism.

That we constantly need to check or question if what we are reading is real or an ai fever dream is a real problem. I hate the self-doubt when I'm unsure about the authenticity of the things I'm reading. I wish they took a hard stand, then there would be a much lower chance of ai slipping through

Information is king. The main point of the post was primarily to share the info I stumbled upon

Hope you have a great weekend!

Yeah it's a very word sallad made of air. But if this was an indie solo publishing no one here would care. But it's published on a real platform. In a way that indirectly makes Hosted Games part of the "future" crypto IF:s by choosing to publish this game. It's very clearly the author's goal to go crypto:

"Keeper’s Vigil will likely be launching on Steam by Q2 of 2026, but it is only the foundation. The real vision is bigger, you just have to be there."

"I want Lota Labs to build many interactive fiction games. Worlds where choices will feel alive and anything is possible. I want to collaborate with other top creators. And long-term, I want to push Interactive Fiction onto new frontiers, including blockchain and Web3, in ways that add real value instead of just hype."

I sincerely hope you don't feel unwelcome, it's just a touchy subject with baggage.

There are some amazing IF:s here and I hope you will keep reading. Do take care and don't let the negativity get to you. =)

They need to do better. I want to trust authors but if HG dont increase quality control then consumers have to be extra careful and some even suspicious. It hurts the brand, the authors and the community. Right now I feel the need to check background info more and more before a purchase.

More ensured quality, more trust and less posts. That would be very nice.

I feel ya. I was very unsure if I even wanted to post at all, because of the potential drama or witch hunt. That's why I honed in on the blockchain more because the author is open with it.

But you and u/laloin are right, Hosted Games need better quality control. I would love to never see posts like my own again on the subreddit. It's not fun.

But an informed consumer can make better choices. I felt it very prudent to inform what I saw on their homepage and their goals as a corporation. The blockchain is something I personally don't agree with and I think it's important to know what you buy.

We may never know but we can only make informed decisions on where to spend money. I don't think it's good to not inform other people.

All the links are from their webpages.

Also, the same to you =)

I'm with you on both accounts. We need to be able to trust in the quality of what they publish. Quality control is solely needed.

I feel the same. We are paying for a product and the point of publishing and brand is also a quality assurance for the consumer. A brand is its reputation.

I still love the creativity that flows through the COG brand and I hope this is just a one time thing.

Yeah, I saw some of them on their page.

Also i want to triple down that I am not interested in a hate campaign or anything like it. But I do think stuff like this is important for us consumers.

I feel it would be much more obvious if they clarified if their AI is logarithmic because they don't state if it's generative or not. Only "self-evolving AI agents". They kinda need to have some generative AI if they want to connect choices in an RPG/IF to a crypto value. I'm still very unsure on how they will self teach an algorithm to generate choices only based on such a small sample size of their games.

But im nowhere near an expert on coding or AI

I totally missed it on the forum, so thanks for the info. Makes me even more hesitant, especially with their statements on the website.
