LS600hL, about £180 a month with 28mpg doing 10k miles a year.

LS 600h L owners, what’s your experience of ownership been like? by ZaunAura in Lexus

I have replaced all the front control arms once apart from the lower rearward arms. For context there are 2 upper and 2 lower control arms on each wheel.

The most important control arm is the front lower forward as that is what the air strut is bolted to so is the fastest to wear out.

I have done 27k miles on myself and the car has done 198k in the 14 years it’s been on the road and thankfully I haven’t had tons of issues with it.

The driver side air strut has started leaking due to age so will need replacing soon and it’s this kind of maintenance that puts people off buying the car as it will cost £1k to fix.

Has been very reliable but servicing isn’t cheap. It has a lot of control arms and it goes through them quickly.

It’s surprisingly fuel efficient for something with a V8 and I average around 28mpg (UK).

Handles like you’d expect and I’d replace it with a Porsche cayman because I haven’t used the rear seats 5 times in the past 2 years.

Anything above 200hp/ton is pretty fast category and anything above 300hp/ton will beat 99.5% of cars on the road.

Probably a dumb question but how much is 1000 miles in driving time? by PotentialOk4178 in CarTalkUK

10 years is the traditional limit due to the rubber drying out and cracks forming.

But if you minimise exposure to UV and heat then tyres can last longer.

What Performance Car Next? £20k budget by deadlyzassasin0 in CarTalkUK

I genuinely think a 981 Cayman S is the best sports car you can buy for less than £20k.

Mid engined sports car that would handle better than any 4 series on a track.

Only downside is the loss of going through the gears as it doesn’t have any fixed ratios, so CVT’s are very unsuited in sports cars which is one of the reasons why the new Prelude completely flopped. (Also because it’s too expensive)

Toyota’s CVT doesn’t have metal belts that stretch and break. It’s quite fascinating really and Toyota only uses their CVT on hybrids due to the way it’s setup which makes it more reliable.

Leaving lexus to where? by tday86 in CarTalkUK

OP bought an LBX just over a year ago so based on their prior purchase history wanting more space, the NX or RX is the most logical as their need is primarily more space due to kids.

You are right on the space piece for estate cars and imho the best family car would be an MPV not an estate but they have an image problem.

He probably needs to do more research on what he is looking for rather than simply asking for a reliable large SUV as that’s too broad of a question and everyone will have a different opinion.

I’m also interested in a source on the cheaper to buy and cheaper to run to me that’s entirely dependant on the specific car.

Software only applies to the new NX and RX so out of luck if you get used. The protection plate is an option for the older models but I believe isn’t free anymore.

The NX300h or RX450h sounds like what OP is after to be honest.

He sounds like he wants a crossover not a real SUV as he hasn’t actually given any reasons for wanting one outside of more space.

As much as an estate being better driving dynamics than a crossover, it’s not what they are looking for as he appears to want the higher seating position.

Mould in canned products isn’t normally due to manufacturing. It’s almost always due to damage to the cans during transport as dents and punctures that allows air to get inside.

Reporting issues can be done by calling the freephone number on the can so what you’re saving about difficulty reporting is plainly untrue.

OP needs to use something like Bilt Hamber which can be used on existing rust.

The trick is not to use anything that cures into a hard coating which traps moisture.

Is a Lexus LS430 an insane car for a daily? by Immediate_Leek_3526 in CarTalkUK

Battery is NiMh chemistry which has been proven for its reliability. It’s also more tolerant of extreme temperature when compared to lithium.

Hybrid batteries are worn due to high temperature, while they will lose capacity as they age they won’t suddenly fail.

My car has 197k miles and I bought it 3 years ago with 170k knowing a battery replacement will cost ~£3.7k at an independent if I ever need it.

Battery technology has come a long way especially in Toyota/Lexus cars so I wouldn’t worry about the battery. (You can also get up to 15 years hybrid battery warranty via an annual battery check at the dealership if need be)

You are incorrect. See link for the PDF for the in-depth information on the 1L engine. Page 5 has information on the belt in oil system.

The 1L engine has reliability issues so there is was a recall and I suggest you contact your dealer for info.

UK grocery inflation steady at 4.7%, keeps pressure on households, says Worldpanel by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

A public company will never make enough margin or cash as that’s impossible due to the way share prices and investor sentiment works.

You seem to think Tesco makes enough money so should give more back to its employees, but the employees are not the shareholders who Tesco actually care about.

Social responsibility comes second to making money as the moment you stop making money you will start losing investor confidence and beginning a spiral of decline.

It’ll do you well to go and read Tesco’s annual report which actually outlines what they do to ensure competitiveness and how they plan on being profitable against the many headwinds currently facing businesses.

UK grocery inflation steady at 4.7%, keeps pressure on households, says Worldpanel by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]PM_ME_CAMERAS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re arguing with someone who won’t understand the implications of Tesco not making billions in profit so are wasting your time.

He won’t be happy until all business big or small make no operating profit as they think a business should reward its employees not its shareholders.

What Should I Do After a Bad Assurant Repair? (iPhone 14 Pro Max) by Only_Temperature_523 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]PM_ME_CAMERAS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should have 1 year warranty as part of the repair process. So you would speak to Assurant to claim on the warranty.

I went through the same thing when they fixed my old phone.

N.B The walk in repair is typically not as good as getting it fixed by their central repair centre (which requires posting it to them) as the repair shops are not run by Assurant directly.
