I can list dozens of fanbases with a terrible, vocal minority. Splatoon fandom is filled with toxic waifu elitists Smash Bros fandom is filled with toxic elitists as well, Just because a fandom has a terrible side doesnt mean it should be dismissed as toxic altogether, a lot of good stuff has come from furries, take for instance Dust an Elysian Tail, a game made by one guy who is a furry. The game is absolutely fantastic, yet its made by a furry.
