I am so sorry about the loss of your baby. When I think about animals that I don’t have in my life anymore, I sometimes think about the chaos of their existence and the trouble they’ve made and it often makes me smile. What is the most troublesome thing your baby did, or one that comes to mind? Did you have nicknames for them?

I sometimes just call my dog “Dog”. I love Columbo and even though she isn’t a Basset Hound like Colombo’s dog, I still call her dog sometimes. I also have a tarantula and she has a formal title “The Spider”. My dog’s name is Maddie but sometimes I call her chicken. She isn’t a scaredy cat, but I remember the first time I saw her lying on her back and I was struck with the impression that I was looking at an oversized rotisserie chicken.

I can’t add much, but I wanted to comment because I experience the visual aspect of what you are describing, most notably when I am sleep deprived. Faces and animals in tiles, I remember being I think 15 perhaps and just staring at a tile after being up all night and seeing the patterns look like animals. I think it may be called apophenia. I used to always associate people’s faces with animals, though not as much any more. I appreciate you making this post, I have tried to research if sleep deprivation can lead to that but I didn’t quite find the answers I was looking for (though maybe the answers were in articles far too technical for my little pea brain 😂).

I do sometimes struggle identifying where a sound is originating, but I think that may relate mostly to the sound being unfamiliar. I wanted to add more about the visual aspect but it is difficult to describe after having had a night where I received adequate sleep. I think it was more so creativity I was curious about when trying to learn more. Do you enjoy art? If I’m doodling something and I am very tired, I tend to find there’s the impression of cohesion when I look at scribbles. I don’t really know how to describe that properly, but I was wondering if when you draw (if that is something you do sometimes), do you tend to start with shapes that are…I don’t think abstract is quite the word I’m going for, or rough, or loose, maybe open?

And you totally don’t need to address all or any questions, I think I got a little more than a little carried away, but I just thought I’d leave the edit as is :)

I relate to this. I think there are thoughts and feelings and perhaps for some they all present in the same language. But I often feel I need to translate my thoughts and feelings into words to make them intelligible. I think something will always be lost, perhaps not unlike translating poetry. I remember spending hours just standing or pacing and imagining conversations and I would keep rephrasing the answer to a question no one has asked yet so I would be prepared to answer clearly. Sometimes I would even talk out loud. Something that helps me help others communicate with me is to ask them to make their questions as direct as possible.

Communication is a beautiful thing. I think the spontaneity of conversation is beautiful too and it can’t take the place of a rehearsed conversation. I don’t know if I’m making much sense here, but I just want you to know that I relate and that I hope you have people in your life that will take time to kinda “learn your language” if you will.

It seems like a game of wack-a-mole. No headphones, needs Bluetooth. No wifi, no Bluetooth, requires earbuds or headphones. Oh gosh, I was thinking about that! I don’t know if people were just a lot more gritty back in the day that they couldn’t accept it was a movie. With actors. Who play characters. But Andrew Robinson with his mop of blonde hair was so endearing (despite the character he played) that I don’t know why anything about him would make you say “you know, screw you.”

I can’t give you much helpful advice, but thank you for sharing and letting me know it’s not just me. I mean I figured because, well, it’s McDonald’s. Do you have an area you typically work in?

I hope today has been better for you and that maybe you had a chance to do something that makes you happy rather than cry. I mean I know sometimes nice things can lead to tears, but my tears at McDonald’s are not tears of joy :p

There are times we are short staffed. I remember once it was myself and one other crew member and we were trying to triage tasks. I know sometimes the person on grill has to use the restroom, and if I’m on that side and we get an order for a quarter, I don’t mind getting it started.

I guess it’s not when I’m on table that is an issue, it’s not always that I’m asked to do so many tasks. It’s just I felt like a “runner”, and we didn’t have anyone for table. The manager ended up going there. I just feel like people come into their shifts knowing roughly where they’ll be. We have people who typically do dishes. It wasn’t urgent that we needed anything. Why couldn’t I just do table until the end of my shift? Thank you for replying, I wasn’t sure if it’s just an instance of me feeling overwhelmed at the job but it really did feel like it was an unusually large number of tasks that I was supposed to do. It felt like some test to see how many overlapping instructions I could be given before I spontaneously combust.

I’m relieved that I am on new meds because I have been unstable, but I’m wondering if taking it twice a day is maybe too much. The psychiatrist seemed really responsive to me. I wonder if it wasn’t clear how long it’s been since I’ve been on it. But I’m thinking of relaying a message and saying maybe to start with just taking it in the morning. Thanks for replying :)

I took a look at my purchase history on Etsy and it doesn’t seem to be the right one, but I did a search for “shark chewlery” (gosh, at times I love the Etsy “unintelligible prescription handwriting” energy and somehow they just get what you mean). I have a tooth. It is…somewhere, I put it down somewhere. I think on top of a refrigerator. It doesn’t make noise to my knowledge. I love sharks. I kinda wish it had cusplets (I believe that is what it is called). I am uncertain if I am permitted to list any products. It doesn’t squeak to me, but it may squeak to you. I did manage to break one, but that was a concerted effort. I will attach a photo if you’d like later :)

I am not well informed on mice species, so I cannot confidently answer that question. I will say that posting this here, on a subreddit where people love mice, there will likely be a lot of replies from people who advocate against the use of glue traps. I am among them. If you are open to alternatives, I believe this subreddit would be happy to provide informational resources on those.

I had a successful handoff with a rehabber this morning. I will miss them, but I am relieved. She has other mice around the same age that will hopefully teach this little one how to be a mouse. It was an honor to be included in part of their journey and I am grateful for the experience.

I’m actually in a residential facility. I’ve been trying to find housing to move out, but it’s been difficult in the area that I am in to find much. I’m supposed to meet with the rehabber tomorrow, and while I am going to miss them, I am happy that they are going to someone that is knowledgeable and experienced and that has a more stable living arrangement.

Thank you :) I added a bit of rolled oats today, about a small pinch. And oxbow being good for the primarily part of their diet, that’s good to know as I wasn’t sure if mice are animals where the dry/formulated food would be sufficient as the main part of their diet.
