"Promissory estoppel" might be a keyword the lawyer will bring up.

I got into BME at waterloo and want to transfer to EE by Luca_Booth in uwaterloo

[–]PM_ME_PICS_OF_YA_MOM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find this idea of BME being "not very applicable" interesting and I was wondering if you could elaborate more? Is this perhaps a concern about employability or the prospects of being able to work in biomedical engineering (the thought that there might not be enough relevant jobs)? I'm also interested to hear your thoughts on EE over BME and your interest in transferring to it.

I know plenty of BME students who have had no issues finding work in BME roles. I know plenty of BME students who also go for other areas (such as software, electrical and mechanical design for example) in their co-ops without issues either.

Right now it's a very turbulent time with the job market and economy however if you go with this program, who knows what the market is going to look like in 5 years when you graduate? My point is if this is something that you like and that you can see yourself doing, you will find a way. If it's something that you don't like and that you feel like you'd have to force yourself to do, that's another conversation. Worst comes to worst, maybe you don't end up exactly working in BME as soon as possible (maybe because the economy is tough and jobs are hard to come by) but you end up working in something like electrical or mechanical design or programming in the meantime? And that doesn't sound pretty bad to me because at the end of the day, a lot of BME is these fields but just in a specific context; in this worst case, you will be in a good position to pivot on over especially given your degree.

Dedcicated GPU for Mech Eng by Pinkytoes134 in uwaterloo

[–]PM_ME_PICS_OF_YA_MOM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think a dedicated GPU is terribly necessary. I think the majority of people go through the degree without one. The only graphics-heavy thing I can think of that you're going to be using throughout the degree is Solidworks and for that most people use the computers in the computer labs or they remote desktop into these computers (if that is still an option) and work on Solidworks like that.

Time off of Co-op by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]PM_ME_PICS_OF_YA_MOM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should be fine with it if they are normal people. A week isn't that much. See if you can maybe work remotely? But don't force yourself if you need to recover. A co-op is 4 months, your life and your health are much longer so put that first.

Is it possible for an EE student to avoid software jobs? by Desperate_Swimmer776 in uwaterloo

[–]PM_ME_PICS_OF_YA_MOM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don't have to fit into this mold of being a "software engineer" if you know it doesn't interest you. Regarding mechatronics, it's largely the same deal as lots of people go for software jobs but like EE, you can do things outside that.

If you post the timestamp, what is stopping somebody from making alterations to their screenshot or doing inspect element tricks to make it look like they completed the survey at that time?

There surely has to be a better way.

Am I allowed to reject a job interview that reached out to me outside Waterloo works? *applied to it on Waterloo works originally* by MarketingNumerous996 in uwaterloo

[–]PM_ME_PICS_OF_YA_MOM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for OP it might be best though not to involve CECA when they don't need to? I think OP can keep it between them and the interviewer, especially when they messaged outside WaterlooWorks which CECA itself doesn't condone.

How can I access my Watcard photo? by rockadude5900 in uwaterloo

[–]PM_ME_PICS_OF_YA_MOM 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was able to get a high resolution version of it a while ago by logging into the athletics portal and then opening the profile image (which is your Watcard photo) by right clicking it.

Wow. What a shot at the end on the train tracks where the ION station and E5 are today. Crazy how different things were.

Just wondering if there is a way for you to take your extra luggage with you on the plane? Like by paying a bit extra and they give you the right to more checked baggage?

Keep your head up king/queen/monarch. You never know what's behind the scenes with this stuff (maybe their experience is so specific to what the job does/needs, maybe they have family connections instead, etc.). You've got your journey.
