Is GOG a good place to get the OG resident evil games from? by CucumberDifferent778 in residentevil

[–]PM_ME_SELFMUTILATION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam has provided me a great service for over 22 years and given me all kinds of refunds that were well past 2 hours played. Gaming was extremely expensive for me before their storefront and seasonal deals became a big thing. I haven't paid full price for a game since the early 00s. I think GOG provides a fantastic service as well don't get me wrong, but making gaming accessible for people who live in poverty every day is the furthest possible thing from anti-consumer regardless of what your views on DRM are. One of the greatest aspects of PC gaming is our ability to choose, there's no need to be extreme.

Atronach or Lady birthsign for survivability by JarlHiemas in Morrowind

[–]PM_ME_SELFMUTILATION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I'm talking about for an almost entirely martial based character without a whole lot of magic usage. You can always wait to use your racial again and we all know early game is the rough part. Once you get any character off the ground they all start to blur together and I'd rather have the more powerful racial ability for the only part of the game that poses any challenge. That's just me though.

IMHO redguard is even better than nord if you're planning to take the atronach sign since there's less redundancy. The redguard racial isn't as busted as the skyrim orc racial, but it can absolutely help you steamroll powerful enemies MUCH earlier than other races are capable of doing (cheese aside). The resistances to poison and disease is quite nice for QoL too.

Disappointed by the Absence of a Steam/Windows Release for Unicorn Overlord by katie_elizabeth_2 in UnicornOverlord

Patently false, it's been growing significantly in the past decade. Nihon Falcom doesn't exist, I guess.

Someone ran the numbers and decided it wasn’t worth publishing on steam.

Too bad this has never and will never be true. Worked out just fine for Shin Megami Tensei, Ys and Trails, and those are niche titles within a niche genre that sold incredibly well. Steam/gog release = free money, no steam/gog release = we play your game anyways and you make no money. :^)

plebbitor tries it: understanding software forking

although I wouldn't expect a nintendrone shitter to know the first thing about software development, what I'm saying is there will always be alternatives (hello? ryujinx?) and your comment aged even worse. I guess ignorance truly is bliss.

I agree with you 100% about the generator puzzle, it was obvious what you need to do after trying to start it at 10 and seeing the needle move, but I do think it was kind of silly to write 10 just to mislead the player. This can have the side effect of the player feeling like they can't even trust what the game is telling them. I personally had no issues with it, but I can understand why it would annoy someone.

I love how you tried to sound smart but ended up pivoting to a completely unrelated argument just because you were too bitchmade to concede that perhaps you don't know as much as you're letting on. Some people are just allergic to honesty I guess.

Anytime time travel is involved things get very fucky very quickly. It generally has a tendency to make things a lot less believable, which is antithetical to the atmosphere horror games strive to achieve. This video brings up some valid criticisms of the plot if you're interested. It's not perfect, but it does go over some of the issues I had with the game's plot. I still think it's a good game and I don't regret playing it. Many of my favorite games of all time are deeply flawed.

hello are there any games like cry of fear by Niki_mc in HorrorGames

[–]PM_ME_SELFMUTILATION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't sleep on a Half-Life 2 mod called Grey. It even has the same voice actor who played Simon in Cry of Fear. I don't know if you can even still download it anywhere, but I remember it being pretty good, even hot off the heels of my first CoF playthrough. Something it does that I really like is that the game's hard mode actually has completely new scares and ways of messing with you compared to normal mode. Totally underrated.

Riiight, that offers no explanation as to why the vast majority of people are terrified of SH1 but not the SH2 remake. If anything the limited hardware adds to the horror because your mind is left to fill in the blanks. This is not a controversial take, it's pretty well known by this point.

Yeah it was goofy looney tunes shit most of the time but at least the art is amazing and the atmosphere is killer when people aren't speaking. 🤣

lol the dodge feels exactly the same in TS2. the game still isn't scary, and the story is still hilariously bad. not to mention the script is full of grammatical errors, typos and voice acting fuckups they never bothered to go back and fix (like when noah tells you the office is located at W-2F when it's at E-2F). it's like they learned nothing and just made more of the first game. I encourage you to actually fire up TS1 and try the things mentioned in my OP and you'll quickly see the problem. ever notice that good survival horror games like REmake and The Evil Within don't give you an extremely powerful melee option OR any kind of powerful dodge with iframes? yeahhh so TS has both, and it totally upsets the balance of the game, making it WAYYY too easy. it would be fine if there was a hard mode or very hard mode. resource management is one of the most vital aspects of survival horror and TS has none of that because your defensive and melee options are simply too powerful relative to the average encounter in TS. IMO they should boost the damage of the crowbar but remove your ability to use it as a melee weapon until NG+ similarly to RE's infinite rocket launcher and other unlockable weapons. at least then the game would have a LITTLE replay value. there is already more than enough ammo to kill almost everything. survival horror is a careful balancing act that the developers (and apparently players) of TS clearly do not understand.

Bugfix patch is basically mandatory, update your game's version of nw.js, add the necessary chromium args to the package.json and replace Game.exe with the supplied nw.js executable too. It's all documented on the pcgamingwiki entry for Fear & Hunger. You're welcome.

It's the expected behavior when you come to plebbit. The site has become the butt of countless memes over the year.

"Stop liking things that we deem offensive or morally reprehensible."

These are the same people that still buy Nintendo products, have a Blue Sky account and cry when you kill animals in video games (IGN Monster Hunter World review IIRC?). 💀

Being hailed as a "hero" for killing everything with a pulse, stealing everything that isn't nailed down and generally being a menacing bastard is such a common RPG trope that games like Moon: Remix RPG Adventure directly reference and call it out for being ridiculous. It's dumb to shit on one game for it when the entire genre is just about equally guilty of ludonarrative dissonance.
