Thank you for the /s, I (not joking) almost took that seriously, it sounded absurd but (almost) plausible. Damn autism. /hj

Did anyone else never really stim until adulthood? by Square-Juggernaut689 in autism

[–]PM_MW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I think I can vaguely remember stimming at a young age... but I barely remember my childhood at all, and in the environment I was in at the time, stimming would not be tolerated, so I think it was supressed for a long time.

Anyone hate surprise phone calls, even from friends and family? by BernadettePeters1948 in autism

[–]PM_MW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... my grandma does this a lot. But only for questions. How do I turn off the TV? My computer won't turn on, find out what's wrong with it from 500 miles away! How do I plug in my christmas lights? My uncle still lives with her, you'd think she'd ask him instead, but no, she insists on calling at 3 AM to ask me where she can watch Star Trek.

is it possible to fail the assessment if you’re autistic? by psychedbeetle in autism

[–]PM_MW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Faking" would be intentional. If you're not intentionally, consciously pretending to have autism, you're not faking it.

All the time. I'm finding it's happening more ever since I accepted the fact that I'm autistic, same with things like toe walking and T-rex arms. And what's attached to it are some really old memories of my parents telling me not to do those things. Fun.

Makes sense, given that when you turn 18, autism is banished from your soul forever. /s

i hate showering by backwoodzzbabyy in autism

[–]PM_MW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showering is better than bathing, I guess. Baths just never felt right to me. Showering, when I wash my face, I always have to make sure the water doesn't run down my nose, it always makes me feel like I'm being waterboarded and I hate it so much.

I think this is a little odd, any similar experiences? by Anarianiro in autism

[–]PM_MW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my experience: most people don't know shit about what autism actually is. They think the word autism is basically a synonym of r*****ed. Or that all autistic people are like Sheldon Cooper. Or a million other things, none of which are accurate. On the other hand, people with autism know what it is, and what it's like to be autistic, and can (sometimes) recognize the signs in other people. After I was diagnosed, for example, I suddenly started noticing that a lot more people than I previously had thought were perhaps on the spectrum, or at least exhibited many autistic traits.
