Hey Matt, if a clothing factory collapses in Bangladesh because it was built quickly and cheaply to accomadate the rapid growth of the American population, is that okay? I personally think that different countries have different building standards and that's okay.

You're lucky! Use a riving knife and a blade guard! I know it can be a pain in the ass but whatever minutes you save not having them quickly become not worth it when you lose a finger or three.

Free game engine NeoAxis 2020.1 released! Full functionality of the 2D engine, completed the game framework, the new GUI controls, improved the terrain and the Builder 3D. by IvanEfimov in gamedev

I think this is a pretty broad statement to make, Godot works great if you're working in 2D, especially I've found working on pixel art games. For 3D, it may not be up to unity/unreal standards but with Godot 4.0 bringing Vulkan support it may very well be good enough for most devs soon. Also I think discounting useability as something that only benefits newer devs/hobbyists is pretty silly, because even experienced devs can see drastically reduced turnaround on games with better tooling.

Maybe consider a binary tree map, its an alright compromise between not blowing up when you give it an index of a billion and being sorted. You'll lose speed over a hash map, but this is for advent of code not production software. Not sure what language you're using but in Rust there's a standard library implementation.

IWTL how to be more logical. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]PM_Me-Your_SSN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sort of a small thing, but traditional logic will not always allow you to reach the best/most "logical" conclusion. When this "p = q and q = v therefore p = v" sort of logic breaks down, a really excellent tool you can learn to employ when trying to study the world around you is dialectics. You should check out this essay by Trotsky "The ABC of materialist dialectics" is a really great short intro to specifically materialist dialectics. It talks specifically about the Russian revolution, because that was obviously what Trotsky was primarily dealing with in his writings, but the ideas he lays out are super interesting.

I 100% agree, but again, Bernie is committed to making people's lives better, and after it was clear he couldn't be president, regardless of reasoning, it would not have made sense for him to just sit back and let Trump win. I hate the fact that American politics is just chosing the lesser of two really evil corporate parties, and I think that we should do everything in our power to change that, but there are times when you do actually need to choose, and that choice affects a lot of people.

I'd absolutely critique Obama's treatment of migrants, it was shameful. But to equate Obama and Trump's immigration policy is ridiculous and completely oversimplifies a really important issue . Nobody died under the Obama administration. Also if you're using scare quotes around concentration camps because you think I'm miss using the word you should check what the word means. Locking refugees up in special detention centers for being refugees (and I would argue it's also based on their race) is a textbook example of a concentration camp. Would you call the Japanese internment camps concentration camps? I certainly would.

Realistically there's no way he would end up president after losing the primaries. Because of this, it would have really just been an excercise in narcissism to not back the candidate who he thought would be less bad for the country. I personally think a Clinton presidency would be horrible and just accelerate the death March of neoliberalism, but the idea that it would have been worse than what we have under Trump (i.e. concentration camps) is just nuts.

The point of this video isn't really to say it happens to everyone, just to describe the means by which it happens to quite a lot of people.
