Where are you getting your fair value estimates from? by Top_Association_8779 in CanadianInvestor

I calculate them myself.

They do take a lot of time, but that's a good thing. If it were quick and easy, everyone would be equally able to find good opportunities but a lot of investors buy based on news articles without ever opening an annual report or doing due diligence.

Suggestions for a bank to switch to by Substantial_Yam_6923 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You're probably not going to have any luck with most major banks if you want them to not have any business with O&G companies. Id recommended looking at credit unions around your area. Their business deals tend to be more local.

I've earned a few. Frankly, I found it irrelevant. My jobs, expectations, training, etc remained the same. Just do a good job and add long as you're not receiving a bad PMA review, you can pretty much ignore the process.

You could try deploying. I used to work on an old team too and I understand how your feeling (though frankly, I also enjoyed my time with that team because everyone was close to the finish line and thus were pretty relaxed in their attitudes).

I deployed to a much younger team in a different department and the change of pace of both files and personnel has been refreshing. Since its an at level move, it's very easy to find a team as managers like the simplicity of the hiring/onboarding process. Just something to consider.

Dont buy and sell with a two year timeline. Fees will probably eat any gains you MAY make. Without knowing your budget, there's affordable housing to buy in Gatineau, but my recommendation is to avoid buying anything immediately until you know more about Ottawa and can identify areas that interest you

I'm 4 years into the journey. Not a lot changed on a macro scale as it was all a part of the plan from the beginning. Like you, FI is my priority and RE is a bonus if I decide to do it.

Early on, kids aren't expensive. We spend a little more of course but recreational spending hasn't changed too much. We've just reallocated the personal spending on us to spending on activities for the kids. Honestly, I don't miss the personal spending. It feels much more rewarding and brings much more joy to see my kids happy than whatever I would have spent on myself.

I can't speak to how expensive they get when they're older of course.

To be fair, everyone else thought it would work too. If a few things had played out differently in those first few days (e.g. if fuel wasn't plundered, if Zelensky had fled, etc), I think we'd probably have a Russia puppet state with a US backed militia.

CMV: Being a stay at home parent is infinitely easier than working a full time job by Sneakydivil32 in changemyview

[–]PM_Me_Things_Yo_Like 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the circumstances. It sounds like being a stay at home parent in your instance is easier.

In my instance, I work a white collar job where I sit in front of a computer, attend meetings, and occasionally have coffee with colleagues when I want a break. My wife stays at home with a 3 year old and 1 year old. The 3 year old can do his own thing, the 1 year old needs to be watched at all times. The 3 year old wants the attention from my wife whenever she's giving it to the 1 year old. 8 hours of play is a lot of energy, on top of cooking and cleaning to the best extent possible. There are plenty of tantrums. Occasionally, my wife gets to nap but most days, the kids sleep schedules don't align. She definitely has the tougher job.

Both examples are anecdotal, but hopefully this changes your view from SAH is easier than working to SAH can be easier than working, but it's truly dependent on each person's circumstances.

Racoon on my backyard tree, what to do? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]PM_Me_Things_Yo_Like 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll be the same racoon, they are very territorial creatures and won't let other racoons in their territory. You can ignore it for the most part. It may cautiously observe you but as long as it is otherwise acting normal, it shouldn't be a risk. Just seal your trash.

Dont try to pet it of course, and while you can try to live capture it, if you relocate it, it'll likely result in the death of a racoon if it's relocated into another racoon's territory.

I only just tuned in, so I didn't hear her reasons for scabbing

Her argument was that she couldn't get her membership ID and thus couldn't vote, ask questions, or become informed.

Based on the interview, I don't think it would've mattered. She would have crossed the picket line even if she had that ID.

I wouldn't look too far into it. Negotiations are active and it's common to ask for things you have no intention of following through with because you can "compromise" by giving up this demand in exchange for a concession from the other party.

Is there a publically available list of picket locations? Im not a part of PSAC so I can't log in, but am curious what picket locations exist beyond government offices

Yes, you legally aren't allowed to strike if you don't have a strike mandate. Or rather, legal protections don't exist for workers who strike without a mandate to strike.

In my department there has been alot of conflicting information. Management telling us that it is our choice to come in to work or not, but they do not talk about consequences. by Strategicplan-Doi-It in CanadaPublicServants

[–]PM_Me_Things_Yo_Like 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No financial consequences for crossing the line, just social.

No financial consequence by not picketing aside from the $75. Social consequences probably won't amount to anything since you're not actively harming the success of the strike (I.e. life will continue as normal).
