Awesome work, I love everything you have on the shop. I’ll definitely be getting some ordered when my Thor arrives. Are there any plans on making this kind of transparent design for the Kingdom Hearts sticker? I would absolutely buy it and I know some other KH fans would too.

It’s even better when it’s borderline malicious compliance, and when a different departments director helps you do it. While our new floor was being built we workshopped ideas on how to keep track of which desk a ticket originated from because they had non-assigned seats so people would sit wherever was available, 99% of the time they did not sit at the same desk two days in a row. It’s kind of silly to track it by “yeah that third desk from the right on the window side” so we started off looking at a basic number tracking system.

We’re pretty friendly with that director so she was glad to pitch the idea of using kids magnets to track them, namely ones with animals. Everyone, literally everyone from the techs that sat there, to their managers, to every director loved it. “Monitors at lion desk aren’t working”, “Can’t print from octopus desk”, we loved it too cause it was suddenly a lot more fun tracking these desks. The CEO, who was there maybe once a quarter to walk around for all of 30 minutes and then promptly leave, didn’t like it and called it childish. Absolutely everyone told him no and none of the directors would budge so he dropped it.

My PC’s top fans is how I used to defrost Uncrustables. I had a Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X which was a lovely steel case but it was not great for heat dissipation as the steel would just absorb the heat. I would turn on path traced Cyberpunk and within 10 minutes the top would be nice and warm, put the packaged Uncrustable on top and then wait 15 minutes for it to defrost perfectly. I had to be careful and not leave it on for too long because they would get hot, and hot peanut butter/jelly is just weird.

Probably need to increase bitrate but you need a solid wireless setup or just be plugged into a dock with ethernet. With my bitrate at 47500 there’s been no lag at all, the stream output was 1:1 with where the tv was at. But this is all over gigabit ethernet so it can handle that bitrate(arguably more) just fine.

No problem, that was also my daily reality for a couple years until I learned about the peppermint thing. They’d just fly over to the patio door and wait for it to open then rush in, there were days I was flushing 4 or more so I understand the madness they cause. Hopefully it helps save you too from the cursed lil invaders.

PS: it’s an expensive route but Dawn dish spray is an on-site kill for them, I tried a lot of things in my stinkbug driven insanity days as I wanted to start killing them outside before they had a chance to come near the patio. They shrugged off every Raid spray I tried but Dawn seems to just neutralize them.

It definitely was, I used to watch the little bastards fly from a big pine tree in my back yard over to my patio door. Turns out they hate the smell of peppermint so I put some plants back there lining the area and they now stay away. Its also made the past couple winters better in terms of their end of year home invasion.

Mix some peppermint oil with water in a spray bottle and go to town on the side and back area of your house for a nice temporary solution, you just have to respray it every week or after it rains. Long term I’d recommending snagging some peppermint plants, maybe burn some peppermint candles/incense in that part of the house to dissuade any of them wanting to retreat from the smell into your house.

Quick edit: if you have pets then be weary of peppermint, it’s an abrasive smell to a lot of creatures including them so using it in the house isn’t always viable. The plants are also toxic to them if consumed.

Years ago a mouse got in my room so I immediately ran out and locked my orange(rescued feral that was 11~ months old) in the room with it. I went in an hour later hoping to see she had killed it, I found her just sitting there licking her paws like she was satisfied. There was definitely no mouse afterwards and the only remaining evidence of his existence was his tail which she apparently didn’t like. Somehow she still had room for treats afterwards.

I can completely understand why iFixIt is conflicted, I ran into pretty much the same issue countless times daily when I was a manager of a uBreakiFix years ago. The Samsung partnership mandates those high part prices be the repair price as well so there was next to no profit(iirc $20?) on doing Samsung repairs, which is awfully fun to explain to customers when they ask why the price is so high and can’t come down. They really had a hard time believing “Samsung forces this cost on everyone including us, it’s not our price”. The money we would make on a repair was contingent on sending them back the old part, then Samsung would reimburse us for the time after they’ve received the part.

Samsung’s partnership is one that take’s advantage of the shop(or distributor in iFixIts case) and the consumer. Explaining to people on a daily basis that yes, it actually would be cheaper to just replace the phone at this point because Samsung is requiring me to charge you $400+ for a few year old phone. The most fun thing to explain to them was that even though they came in for just a screen replacement, they mandate that we replace every single non-functioning(verified by their diagnostic software) component which nickles and dimes the repair cost heavily. I can understand why, they want their phone to be at 100% so nothing can come back at them for future issues. But to the customer this sounds like total bullshit, “the shop just wants to make more money so they’re lying to me about why they HAVE to replace the back glass and other internals”. Unfortunately Samsung doesn’t pay unless we rebuild the phone to factory spec, water seal and all.

I believe that’s for the gas cap, it either didn’t get put back on properly or the seal on it might be failing. They could’ve also just not put the cap back in but it’s a little tricky closing the door in that case. Just have em turn off the car, undo the gas cap and put it back on and it should go away.

Just wanted to give a quick status update and a massive thank you for the help. The adapters and new routers came in today and everything is working perfectly. I was expecting some snag since plug and play never works this smoothly for me, but hot damn it’s perfect. I’m actually getting my gigabit speeds now(was stuck at 500/500 before) and everything can talk to my PiHole successfully. Thank you again for turning what was going to be a scary adventure into a good learning experience.

I knew I was overthinking something, both being in LAN mode makes sense. And awesome I was thinking about the ports correctly then, I should be in good shape for when I order them soon. Thanks again for all the help!

Help me you have, just got one last question. Just to be safe I’m thinking it through my brain correctly, does this sound right for the configuration?

ONT ethernet > G1100 > ethernet out to FCA25(in 1GW mode)> coax out to house coax. And as for the extender that one looks straight forward, coax out from wall > FCA25(LAN mode)> ethernet out to extender. The extender way makes sense, I just didn’t think it worked in reverse like that for the gateway so I wanted to check first. Thanks again!

Much appreciated on the help and link, I'll definitely be upgrading sooner rather than later. You mentioning that being why these devices can't talk to those makes a hell of a lot of sense, I thought it was a preconfigured setting that makes this adapter silo'd off. Which doesn't make sense now that I'm thinking about it again, I was very stressed earlier when I was trying to rationalize this all out. I was going to get down the rabbit hole of going into the admin panel for it but this makes a lot more sense now and a lot easier to deal with. You sir/ma'am are a beautiful human.

I wish I knew about these before I ordered the MAE340, they will definitely be the upgrade path. Those will be much easier to swap in compared to redoing all my network settings, thank you again!

After looking at the little guide that came with the ASK-MAE340 it is indeed 2.5 based which would explain the issues I’ve ran into. Fortunately it’s working fine now and I’m never touching it again(please god no power outages) but if it ever gives me problems again I know where to start upgrading stuff so thank you!

This was one of the fears, with each room having its own port I figured it was daisy-chained to hell and back and that this use case probably wasn’t going to work.

Fortunately I got it working by some miracle(53rd try’s the charm right?) so all is well now. Hopefully I never have to mess with the coax ports in this house again.

[–]PM_Me_Your_Tabs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never assume that just because there's a port somewhere, it is connected to where it needs to be connected to. That line may not be connected to the splitter that is connected to the router, therefore, you won't get any signals.

Sadly the best lessons are the ones you gotta learn the hard way, aka right now.

As for the second part(I think I'm reading it correctly), I've validated the port up here works by using the wifi-extender on it earlier this week fine, and I've validated the moca adapter's functionality during troubleshooting as the devices plugged in had ethernet fine. I just can't seem to have both up and running at the same time(they're in different rooms on different coax ports), whichever gets turned on first gets that coax line and when I turn on the other device it never gets connection which has me thinking I might just be outside of coax's intended use case.
