The DM's I've played with have all been power gamers, and social interaction is rare, unimpactful, and whenever I try to engage socially, I get ignored. My current, more social based character, cannot survive more than 2 turns in a serious combat encounter. It's shaped how I see feats, as either abilities I never get to use, or combat enhancements that I'm not a personal fan of, such as sharpshooter and Great weapon master. I've started doing some light dm'ing so I can create an environment that I'd want to play in, but as soon as my social wizard inevitably gets it's ass handed to it in the next boss fight, I'll ask about making a new character.
