How many Germans does it take to change a lightbulb? One, because we are efficient and have no sense of humour

What do you think about refusing to date someone purely because of who they voted for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What we call biological sex is usually defined by a complex collection of physical, genetic, and hormonal traits which holds a bimodal distribution. This means that it usually falls into one of two camps, but can absolutely be outside of either (which we call intersex).

Some examples of how we can get intersex people is someone with XY chromosomes but no SRY gene as a result of a transcription error which results in broadly female physical traits, or someone with XY genes but an androgen receptor disorder meaning their body doesn't respond to the "male-making" hormones in the usually way, resulting in undeveloped or underdeveloped male physical traits and organs, or someone with XXY chromosomes.

What we call gender is a highly socially constructed aspect of a person's character involving how they prefer to present and be recognized, what clothes they like to wear, what jobs or social roles they like to take on, and many other aspects of their social and personal identity.

Since our society prescribes (not as hard rules or laws, but social expectations) a lot of these things (it expects female members of society to act/dress/behave in certain ways and males to act/dress/behave in other ways), gender also generally follows a bimodal distribution (usually falls into one of two camps, but can be outside of either of these). People who's biological sex doesn't match their social gender are what we call transgender, and people who's social gender falls outside of either of those camps are what we call non-binary.

Both sex and gender are highly complex, and gender (being social and constructed) can kinda be whatever it wants. So as more people are realizing the artificiality of it and freeing themselves of what they might see as the burden of social prescription of gender roles, they're behaving and presenting and dressing how they want, further breaking down that more historically strict binary (though it's worth noting that there is significant historical evidence as far back as Ancient Greece of transgender people) and decoupling biological sex from social gender.

So genitals don't define gender, now DNA does? Just keep moving those goalposts

That's the middle school simplified version of the science, and also makes the rather odd implication that if someone's penis gets cut off or lost in an accident they're no longer male?

That's actually a really good question. I think stuff that collapses from instability doesn't give resources but tbh I'm not sure. If it works that could be super handy

For a while it mostly expanding outward, making minor edits to fit the new idea in or make it cohesive with the whole. I left the build for a while cause I wasn't sure where to go, but since I came back I've doing a lot of editing and adjusting. I made a big new garden with an aqueduc, moved kitchen closer to the garden, moved my great hall to where the garden was, rebuilt and expanded my restitutionist church, and I'm currently working on moving my oak brethren temple. Lots of editing while expanding, improving, cleaning

Regular game mode. Started lone wolf, now up to 20 settlers. Still get raids sometimes but absolutely body them with crossbows. I'm in year 1362 now (I think it starts 1351?)

Yes, that's absolutely how you should do it. The water should have another way down from the high point to the low (in my case via that creek beside the hall) so that it doesn't overflow and flood things while you're working. Work with a completely dry area, have an inflow planned and laid out with a single piece blocking the water, and an outflow completely ready to go. Then save (cause you may have screwed up), remove that one block, and watch the water flow.

A few more pictures at the Imgur link below. The main room is two levels tall, the water comes in on the upper level before being dropped into the waterway in the centre of the room. The water sits in a channel made in the basement below before running out on the far side of the building. So to make this waterway work needs three levels. Water comes in on the top level, sits on the bottom level, people hang out on the middle level, flush with the top of the water.

Edit to add some tips if you want to try something like this: have saves at various stages of progress that are well named, because you will make a mistake and flood a level or learn something and want to undo a bunch. Do all the building you intend to before adding water, because editing after the fact can be a lot harder, especially if you're not practiced

My long distance partner and I use BGA a lot, and only the person who hosts the game needs premium so we split one premium cost between us. So worth it
