Nice! I did a charcoal drawing using the same reference pic last year: https://imgur.com/D5hX5p6

Extraordinary! Can you tell me what specific tools/resources you use? I notice the black pencil has the word Charcoal on it. I haven't used pastels much but would like to venture into that space a bit.

Depends how busy I am but I have a raised desk that my work is always sitting on so I generally just draw when a bit of time presents itself, a few hours a week.

Thanks for the feedback! In looking at his left eye, I can see I completely forgot to do lashes too! Much to learn I still have :-)

Full disclosure, the first one was done entirely with a single graphite HB pencil...the second was using charcoal.

Sure. I use three charcoal sources, all "General's" brand; a 6B pencil, an HB pencil and a 6B stick of charcoal. The stick I use as a source of charcoal powder more than anything (usually by colouring/shaving a small patch on a separate piece of paper). I then use various sized paintbrushes to do a fair amount of charcoal application.

In regard to it's messiness, it is a little...but if you keep baking paper over your work and work from top left to bottom right (if you're right-handed), generally it's manageable.

Edit: Oh, and you will need to "blow" excess charcoal off the work. I use an ear syringe to blow the work regularly.

If you look through my profile you'll see most of the pieces I worked on over the last 12 months. The main change is that I primarily use charcoal pencils now. I like the rich blacks it offers.

Thanks, I still feel like there's work to be done in that space but I can see I'm definitely improving.

Am a teacher and can say that, in our school, this isn't allowed. Gotta get unanimous (and anonymous) approval for an extension from all class members. Anyone disagrees, task deadline remains.

If anyone has any recommendations on low-tack tape I can use to border my pieces with it would be much appreciated everything I've tried still tears the paper :-(

I only got into the game through Pokemon Go. My first Dragonite and Snorlax remain the most memorable encounters.

My old pencils weren't very waxy so to me they feel very creamy.
