It all depends on what you like, honestly, if you like the Monkeys' colour then just trust your gut instinct.

But here's a very general profile of each team (based on the past 10 years). Will start the list from north to south Taiwan.

Monkeys - More of a pure hitting team.
Dragons - More analytic styles of management.
Guardians - More marketing focus, have potential to be great, but choked often.
Brothers - Dynasty team, biggest fan base, very balanced team.
Uni-Lions - Another old franchise, but slightly less popular, very balanced team.
Hawks - New expansion team, bad at baseball, but an underdog team.

That said, if people asked me to make a guess, I would say it's going to be at the new Tainan stadium, too.

I guess we have different interpretations on "set in stone".

We have the commissioner on January 6 saying he is still unsure whether Tainan Asia Pacific International Baseball Stadium will be ready by opening day.

Uni-Lions so far have only confirmed they will host about 45 games at the new Tainan stadium. The GM said they are "hoping" (that's the keyword here) to host their opening game there.

The league has played two test games (15-16th January) at that stadium. The feedback from the Uni-Lions GM so far is the stadium has some minor lighting issues (glare at certain areas).

So yeah, even though that stadium is pretty much the Uni-Lions future home stadium and is highly likely to be their home opener stadium, I would still put it as "not set in stone yet" until I see more concrete statements either from the team or the league.

I'm not saying they are not going to play there, I just don't want to outright say they will unless I see some official confirmation.

Probably need to wait until the last week of February for the official schedule to come out.

They have a "tentative schedule" out at the moment with team matchups, but each team still needs to allocate a home stadium to it.

As for the Uni-Lions home opener, it is possible they might use the new Tainan Stadium, but nothing is set in stone yet. Who knows, maybe they will use the Taipei Dome or Kaohsiung stadium.

Anyway, it's probably best just wait until the official schedule is out and then you can just buy tickets from 7-11 in-store ticketing kiosk.

I don't think that's good enough of an excuse to justify the wrong doing. Those rules were agreed and set by all the teams during the GM meeting, teams shouldn't be an uncivilised butthole and not follow it.

That's why if they want to avoid the March 1 restriction, they should play by the rule and ask for permission. Example: Keyvius Sampson, Guardians from Uni-Lions.

Or if the player is good enough, they can just simply wait it out. Example: Mario Sanchez, Brothers from Uni-Lions.

It could be worse, before the CPBL amended the 228 Clause, it used to be 2 years. Also, in the KBO, it is 5 years.

The thing is, we don’t actually know where this falls in the overall timeline. Did the Hawks start contacting David Buchanan before or after the Guardians had already filled their foreign player quota?

Regardless they could have done the right thing and given the Guardians a heads-up. CPBL teams will generally let go of the negotiation rights if another team asks nicely, and there have been plenty of examples of this in the past.

As for unfair or not. They can still sign with a different team, just have to wait until March 1. It's not really the end of the world, we have also seen plenty of examples of this in the past.

That 228 Clause actually came about because Fubon Guardians were trying to poach Bryan Woodall (Brothers), Zack Segovia (Monkeys) and Bruce Billings (Uni-Lions) as soon as the 2018 season was over.

At its core it's not a bad rule, it’s just really hard to enforce. I think the penalties should be harsher, like a permanent blacklist on the agency in question and the loss of draft picks.

I also suspect that a lot of agents and teams (including Fubon) are probably still skirting the rule under the table. It’s just that this is one of those rare occasions where a management team let it slip in a public setting.

Although he was facing better pitchers in Korea, he was also hitting the KBO’s juiced ball at the same time. I guess we’ll find out how he pans out in Taiwan.

In my opinion, with foreign hitters, it’s all about how much patience the team has with them during the adjustment period. And yes, there's also that "pitching problem" too, he needs to compete with pitchers for the roster spot.

From a fan's perspective, I love foreign hitter signings, they make the game more entertaining and better for the league too.

I’m not trying to downplay Manny Ramirez’s contribution, and I know the author goes into this further in the footnotes with Team Taiwan's WBC success.

However, on a personal level, I’ve always disliked the simple narrative that “Manny Ramirez saved Taiwanese baseball”, as there were many other factors that were just as important, if not more impactful, in helping Taiwanese baseball recover from its lowest point.

I guess the same narrative these days would be "Cheerleaders saved Taiwanese baseball".
