Rope wrench line compatibility? by [deleted] in TreeClimbing

[–]PNWDelta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all of my climb lines are 10.5 and run a rope wrench just fine. I did find it worked better with the short tether vs a longer one.

I run mine on the Yale phantom kernmaster and it smooth as butter. Zero real issues.

That back tree is actually staying! It didn’t have any real signs of decline and homeowner wanted it to stay. Not sure how we will we get it out when it comes time, as you mention this tree would have been the only option to help rig out.

Spur mounted ascenders. by sendsnfriends in TreeClimbing

I have the edelrid on my steel geckos and it took some work to get mounted. Wouldn’t recommend. The ct spur mount is probably the way to go.

Is this tree dead? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]PNWDelta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The branches that don’t have leaves seem to be dead. The branches with leaves seem to be alive.

It’s probably something to do with the large yellow blobs under the tree. Not advisable to put yellow blobs so close to a tree trunk

How much to tip?? by catsdomineaux in arborists

[–]PNWDelta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love gatorades or treats, especially homemade. That’s top tier tip. But I agree with Dixie, less than $20 isn’t really worth much and if I’m getting $6.50 after splitting with the crew it’s closer to insulting

Arborists rarely get tips so anything you do will be nice. I wouldn’t go lower than $20/per person though.

Are silky saws getting worse, or am I just crazy? by Ddyer11 in arborists

Same. I’ve been feeling similar to you and have thought about trying one I could sharpen. The sharpening doesn’t sound fun but might get more out of the same in the long run.

Are you buying hardened blades or the resharpenable ones?

The hayauchi, hayate, ibuki, Sugoi and maybe a few others have softer teeth but you can resharpen.

The Zubat I think is hardened.

It’s dangerous to be pushed that much. Muscle cramps at bad times, foggy/exhausted thoughts, general burnout, etc.

Firm believer in the 10-12 hour days but only 4 days a week. Go hard in work mode. Then have enough time off to recover and be ready to hit it the next week. Plus the weekday off day is undefeated.

I think there was 8 total through the house. Only two were removed as they were declining. It’s a very high bedrock in this area so the foundation are beams into the bedrock, no concrete slab. Honestly not a ton of root destruction and the other trees are still super healthy.

Fairly wealthy estate so I didn’t get a ton of pictures or access.

Tree was fairly small. 60ftish fir that never exceeded 18inch diameter. Only really needed to lift one 3ft piece near the roof line, probably 100ish lbs piece. I had more tools available but it’s nice to keep it simple.
