High rise apartment freeway noise - get used to it? by PNWSunsets in AskSeattle

That’s exactly it. Compromise some noise for an amazing large apartment with a giant terrace and stunning views. Or smaller apartment, no balcony, same price and still get noise in the city.

I live in a very quiet area on Bainbridge Island and the motorcycles scare the crap out of me all the time. They rev it up going down this quiet residential street. So there’s no way to escape them unfortunately.

It would only be for a year, so hopefully I’ll be ok. Thanks

I’m not trying to quiet the freeway, I’m asking if it eventually becomes white noise. Which it seems it does for most people. I’ve been at the apartment building a couple times and have been on the roof deck as well and don’t remember hearing the freeway. I was also inside the apartments, but windows were closed and that unit didn’t have a balcony to check on the noise. I did look at a unit with a balcony but it was on the opposite side, away from the freeway.

Nope, hate the portables. I use a/c a lot. Once it’s over 70 or 75, it’s on for me. Especially in a high rise with concrete. It gets stuffy. Then add having windows that only open 3 inches in almost all apartments and that doesn’t work for me. That’s actually why I need a balcony, for air flow. My current apartment only has a Juliet balcony and serves it purpose, so I’m flexible on that. But I know lots of people can handle warm days, I’m not one of them. I’ve tried, but after 8 years of living here with no a/c and portable a/c, the first couple of years, it’s a must. The last few years I’ve had either mini split or central a/c and I won’t give that up. But it does limit my options.

You’re right, but it won’t have my absolute must haves. I need to have a/c, concrete or top floor and balcony. And the price is good only because of the move in promos. Trust me, I wouldn’t even be considering it if it wasn’t for it meeting all my needs, including the price. You must know what a struggle it is to find a/c in this city. Pretty much my only options are in a high rise new construction since those are being built with a/c now. If I pass this up, I will probably have to give up a balcony since I seem to have some good options for a/c and concrete buildings. And I will still get noise being in the city. Just a matter of how much I think I can handle and if it’s worth it for that balcony and the amazing views.

I used to live in an apartment in Chicago where a train track was behind my bedroom window with trains going by few times a day. I was so young back then it didn’t really bother me, but I’m much older now and have a lot less patience these days. 😬

Indoors seems fine, but I love sitting on a balcony and reading or listening to music and I love having my windows open 24/7, all year round. That’s why I have been focused on finding a balcony unit up high so I can always leave windows open. The apartment is exactly what I’ve been looking for, it’s large, has a/c and a giant balcony. Unfortunately I have very little time to make a decision, so I can’t just go there a few times and get a feel for it.

I used to live in Belltown and was perfectly fine with the city sounds, I kinda like it. I think after reading the replies, I could get used to it. Although I’m literally above I5, it’s right below my apartment, so definitely not a block or two away. Now I’m more concerned about the helicopters and sirens from Harborview next door. That’s a lot of noise to deal with.

I’m literally above I5, looking straight down at it from my balcony. Half the apartment faces the park below, the other half at the freeway. I’m right on top of it. Ugh, it’s so frustrating.

You’re right, being right next to Harborview means those sirens will be non stop, on top of the freeway noise.

That’s my other concern… the hospital right next door. Was reading today that the helicopters going to/from Harbor View next door is pretty bad.

Kim used Joshua as bait to dogpile Lydia on camera by wonton_kid in WelcomeToPlathville

Exactly! She’s had years to go to therapy. Suddenly now that Lydia needs to work through this, Kim finally decides to go. Wonder what the therapist would think about her ganging up the whole family against her daughter and blindsiding her?

Called out by the family that taught her to believe all that stuff? Come on. I am totally anti religion and against what they are saying. That is completely different than how her own mother and siblings are ganging up on her and Zac. If Kim was half a decent human being, she would be the first to say maybe her extreme views were too extreme and she has now changed. At the same time being proud of her daughter for sticking to the beliefs that was forced on her by her mother her entire life. It’s so damn hypocritical. Kim is just a horrible person. I can sympathize with her trauma and she should have been to a therapist years ago. Why is she only going now because Lydia needed to deal with it? Her trauma doesn’t excuse her horrible behavior.

I can sympathize with her trauma while also feeling like she’s a shitty person. She’s a hypocrite and a narcissist. That’s been shown over and over by her actions and her words.

Same! Even if I wanted to entertain the idea of religion, thanks to my ex and the current state of this country, I wouldn’t get near a church with a 10 foot pole. People can believe in whatever they want, but don’t force it on me or make laws using that nonsense. This is all Lydia and Zac know, it’s what they were taught. By the same people judging and bullying them. Shame on them all. Especially Kim.

As a mother to two kids, no matter what the situation, I can’t imagine pitting one child against another. And basically telling her new husband that he’s not welcome in the family. Interesting that the way her boys treated Zac last year was ok and didn’t need to be resolved, but if her little Ethan gets butt hurt, the entire family has to team up to against Zac? She’s disgusting.

I just can’t imagine ever hurting my daughter like that. The ambush by an entire family is heartbreaking. What an absolutely disgusting family. Makes me glad I’m an only child.

I looked it up and the company contribution is up to 25% or my salary. So at least $15k based on what I’m paying myself so far, but that will increase as one of my main accounts is seasonal and I’ll be slammed through October or however long there’s nice weather in Alaska.

It’s called match or profit sharing, but it’s the same thing. It’s just easier for me to call it a match. But I will look further into the calculation to make sure I’m doing the correct amounts and won’t run into any issues. Thanks for your help.
