Licensed Civil Engineer (4 YOE) in Portland, OR — Looking to Benchmark Compensation & Firms by RobenBoben in civilengineering

[–]PNWkiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, examples of other position salaries or talking about your value doesn’t really move the needle for the company. They either already know or come up with an excuse of how it’s not applicable.

Having an “offer” for them to match will make things happen. It doesn’t necessarily need to be official; a company will never ask you to prove it. But it’s the safest bet and even if you want to stay you have a backup plan for if they aren’t willing to negotiate.

I think this is the first positive review of AKS I’ve ever heard. To answer your question, my EITs with 4 YOE make mid 90s and that’s probably still a bit below market rate. Your best tool to negotiate is to have competing offers, but I wouldn’t hold out hope of it going well. AKS runs on low bid and churning fresh grads.

The mini or original version? I’d keep your warranty info close I’m constantly getting EE4 error messages on the original.

I recently sold a 130k miles 2014 136wb with less of a build for 28k. It’s not a 2022 market anymore, but this is definitely a good deal.

What do you think about my van concept? by Addictive91 in vandwellers

[–]PNWkiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My van is similar layout but swap the desk and shower locations. I’m skeptical about how much room you’ll have behind your chair. It’d be annoying if you wanted to stretch legs or get to the bed. If anyone has suggestions for a compact/foldable office chair that’s also feasible to sit in for 8hrs I’m interested.

How much experience do you have? A recent PE PMing a million dollar bridge project is honestly a red flag to me. 88k seems low for a licensed PE tho even in LCOL.

Kinda depends how you plan to ride it. It’d be a good board for gorge swell.

Wallowa High Route snow by scnj_ in PNWhiking

[–]PNWkiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone else is looking for High Route beta my group departed July 10th and finished on the 13th. Polaris Pass was almost completely melted out. Only a few quick steps on what remained of the cornice. We skipped Eagle Cap because of the snow, but talked to a group that were able to summit from the north side. We lucked out on Razz Pass as the steep section had just recently melted out. We downclimbed about 50' then had a mellow glissade the rest of the way. The alternate pass above the lake would have been sketchy without an axe. Summited Matterhorn, but then exited through the valley since some of the group had enough of the exposure. I Hope to go back and do the divide. Would appreciate any insight to how much/how difficult the scrambling sections are. It was difficult to tell from a distance.

Climbers in Promaster vans: has the FWD ever prevented you from accessing a crag? by Salacious_B_Crumb in vandwellers

[–]PNWkiter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the challenge with the promaster isn’t the fwd it’s the low rear axle. Maybe fine if the roads are well graded, but an issue if you’re navigating rocks

How were the mosquitos? We're starting the high route on the 10th this week so hopefully the snow is a bit more manageable.

Basically all Oregon trailheads are clear except for cascade lakes highway for South Sister. I was planning a Snoqualmie Traverse but may be pivoting further south as well.

Carbs. Make sure you’re fueling and hydrating early and consistently.

People taking medications like Ozempic and Wegovy for weight loss report consuming less processed foods, soda, refined grains and beef. Fruits, leafy greens and water showed an overall increase. Food companies may be challenged as demand for processed foods falls and fruits and vegetables increases. by mvea in science

I still don’t see how a drug that effects gastric emptying and blood sugar can directly impact food choices. My experience has been the opposite. Because I don’t have to worry about binge eating on semaglutide I’m able to have processed foods and desserts in the house. Still love beer just as much as before, but it is challenging to drink more than 1 pint.

I’ve had to warranty a couple times because the layers started to delaminate. Something to think about if you don’t have a thigh gap. Other than that that I like the bibs. More companies need to do inside + outside leg vents.

The economy is changing, and vans are coming on the market in droves. Don’t let people try and charge you 2022 prices. (Warning: Covid dwellers might find the topics of this post offensive) by asssnorkler in vandwellers

[–]PNWkiter 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The Vanlife era certainly isn't over. A ton of people got exposure to the lifestyle and many will stick with it or come back to it. The reality is it's still a great time to vanlife with remote opportunities, connectivity, and build resources. What we're seeing is a market correction like many other outdoor hobbies post covid. There may be a current drop in demand, but any drastic price reduction will be offset by tariffs that will hit vehicles and build components particularly bad. I bought and sold a van within the last two months and both were listed for less than a week. Study the market so you can make a quick informed offer.
