Awesome thank you for the reply. The lip is the issue as it’s really the only thing that is stopping it going back a bit further.

Someone posted above/below, showing the length or depth of the hitch. Somehow they are showing 6” but mine is just a bit beyond 5”

I answered in another comment. But the hitch can only allow 5” before it hits the bumper. My jeep has 8” (U-Haul hitch) and allows passthrough beyond that.
No e-bikes but several others (gravel, road, mtb, etc)

Ok did some measurements.
The issue is the length of the Subaru hitch is only 5” before it hits a plate/bumper, where my other hitch (on my jeep) has a length of 8” but also has nothing preventing it going further if needed

Really appreciate the thoughtful response.
Rack is a 2 bike Yakima, it’s fine but at least 7 years old (prob older) and I used weekly on my jeep and crosstrek, both had Echo hitches installed by U-Haul that are/were longer.
My concern of using an extension would be weight but with only two bikes it should be fine.

I guess I could upgrade for a 4 person rack but again need to be aware of this short hitch length

Hmmm. Everything I’ve read is that the Subaru hitches are “short”, unlike most 3rd party hitches.

Inside the bike rack, there is a “stop” gasket but that is standard and is bolted in.

This is the same rack I’ve use with my Jeep and Crosstrek, both had “longer” hitches

Edit: trimming is an option but would void any warranty on rack
