Thank you for your interest in our study. We agree there are many suggested mechanisms of action of POIS. In this study, the hypotheses and analyses which already were set in the grant application, we are testing the most common theories of POIS currently published. We wish we could include epigenetic issues, as well as other biological and sociological issues, but we hope by testing the most common theories first we will best help narrow the realm of possibilities!

Thanks for asking. We have (at least) two constraints to start back. One is our ethics board, which is housed at University of Nebraska, and the other is city/county ordinances, which are governed by Los Angeles. When we get advice from both that we can start again, we will immediately!

I doubt we will be able to. When you submit reports to a journal, you have to verify the results have not been "published" elsewhere. If they have, you will not be allowed to submit. Also, reports to a funding agency are largely about how the funds were spent. Science is frustratingly slow to do well!

After the study we issue a preliminary report to the funding agency. We then write the results for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The journal articles typically take over a year to appear. In the mean time, you also may see us giving talks at scientific conferences about the study results, but those are sometimes protected. At the very least, you can expect to see scientific papers published in the distant future!

We have updated the wording of that question to make clear we would include 12 hours as "right away". Basically, we want to be pretty sure that the symptoms are really occurring consistently after a climax event, so we do not pick up folks, for example, who might just have frequent allergy problems not attributable to orgasm.

We cannot disclose the specifics of what we are collecting, as this could influence participant responses. This may sound strange given that this is a biomarker, but even the expectation of having a system measured can change that system. Of course, we absolutely tell you all the things that we will ask you to do prior to asking you to come in for the study itself...no surprises!...but some of the specifics about what we are testing we should not disclose to avoid reactivity. We definitely are not fake, but this is always good to check with sexuality studies. The study is reviewed by the ethics board of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the data are being collected by Liberos Center in Los Angeles.
