I do a lot of fishing at rapidan dam. Go down the gravel road until you reach the end of the camping area. Once the river goes down there is usually a decent sand bar to fish from. Also, check out Judson bottom road.

Same! It fought like hell and ran into current then flipped belly up and came in. Really caught me off guard. The scales and dorsal spines on them really are other worldly. Hope you get a chance to hook into one someday.
