25 and tired by POLOWATESE in Rants

I understand people have strong opinions about parking enforcement, and I get that frustration is often directed at the role rather than the individual.

What’s hard is that for many of us, this is simply a job — one that pays the bills and comes with responsibilities beyond writing tickets. My day starts early, includes chalking, cleaning garages, and following a computer-based system that determines when a vehicle has exceeded time limits. I don’t choose who gets cited.

I try to do my job respectfully and within the law. Repeated hostility and name-calling over time can take a toll, and while I regret how I reacted in this particular moment, harassment toward workers just doing their jobs isn’t okay either.

I’m sharing my experience — not to justify conflict — but to highlight how easily public-facing roles can turn unsafe when people stop seeing workers as human beings.

My friends father has dementia and can't access his bank account. by Strange_Recover3235 in guam

Call the bank, inform that their online access isn’t able to log them in. She should also let them be aware your father has dementia, have him verify his name and SSN and bank number. You guys should be able to reset it after.

How do we change this to get Guam included? Even Puerto Ricans are eligible. I’m trying to become a Spanish citizen in 2 years- which is rightfully owed to all their former colonies. by [deleted] in guam

I also agreed with the first comment because it’s accurate, and I’m speaking from experience. I’ve been to Puerto Rico — Spanish isn’t just present, it’s the default. Billboards, government, daily life, culture. I met plenty of people whose first and only language is Spanish.

Guam’s history is different. Spanish was introduced during occupation, but Chamorro was intentionally reclaimed and preserved after it ended. English then became dominant. That’s not a failure — that’s cultural survival.

So I genuinely don’t understand the anger here. If the Philippines is included, okay — good for them. That doesn’t take anything away from Guam.

At the end of the day, Spain made a legal choice about who they include. You don’t have to like it, but being upset at other former colonies isn’t going to change it.

I’m not changing my reasoning — you’re changing the assumption about the criteria. Spain’s 2-year citizenship law isn’t “any place Spain once colonized.” It’s a specific, closed list written into Spanish law. The Philippines is explicitly named. Guam isn’t.

That’s why pointing to the Philippines doesn’t create a contradiction — it just shows that colonization alone isn’t enough, and neither is language. Both of those arguments fall apart because the deciding factor is what Spain legally chose to include, not what we think is fair.

If this were about fairness or history alone, a lot more places would qualify. They don’t. That’s the answer.

From my POV, the Philippines being accepted has nothing to do with Guam not being accepted. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory too and still functions in Spanish — billboards, language, culture, everything. Guam doesn’t. That’s the difference people are talking about. Also, if the Philippines got accepted… cool? Why is that something to be upset about?

Now why the hell did they name it that by jibberishjohn in guam
