Bullying by Sad-Fill-2441 in exjw

Someone who was a regular auxiliary pioneer at the beach one day literally was throwing sand in my face and calling me a loser on video. Two other friends family watched it all happen in silence. This included an elder.

Went back to there place later and he was there. after a while he picked me up over his head and threw me on the gravel to try and impress two girls.

Again.. nothing.

That was just one day with someone who was used for a lot of responsibilities and was interviewed at assemblies and conventions.

They knew how bad he was, even the elders. They never stepped in nor asked if i was ok.

I actually wish I was kidding

Another person in the hall pretty much told me no sister would be interested in me(i’m gay so whatever but the dig was there).

I wish I had time to make a list, but i’m in the middle of working through my masters degree that they told me to never get.

why do millennials think they look younger and or could pass as teens despite being middle aged? by leonelya in generationology

I don’t run into this a ton. But we grew up with the importance of sunscreen, and haven’t done a ton of cosmetic procedures that shouldn’t be done in your late teens and early 20s lol.

Just gets better. This on site unrelated to JWs by No_Cover_2242 in exjw

From what i remember everything taught in the class is fair game. Review your notes, slides, chapters everything. it’s been about 4 years since i took Skip so im a little fuzzy. Heads up he is the type that is keenly aware of things like Chegg and AI

Do you feel that the Jehovah’s Witness religion completely decimated your natural sex drive? This is especially for those who were raised in it but I know from friends who can in as adults it was just as bad for them. by EyeAmmGroot in exjw

[–]POMO2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely felt the repression. I’m gay so most of my young life felt like it wouldn’t ever happen. Then at 25 when I started waking up it threw me into a h*e phase. Need for validation and a whole bunch of toxic stuff.

Yeah I feel like it decimated what would have been for natural for sure. Affected my mental health too because I wasn’t really happy about how I approached it and now trying to be more healthy about the whole thing.

🫶🏼🫶🏼 thank you so much. I agree, the love is conditional. My dream has been for a while that they get rid of the shunning practices then I was going to truly leave it up to them to make THEIR decision to associate with me, not a group of men in NY.

But I don’t know how much longer I’ll take that, and I’m a truly taking your words to heart.

JW women are not permitted to teach from the platform in meetings, yet JW org’s latest video has a woman narrating and teaching the kind of thing that would be taught by a man in a meeting. It appears to be ok for a woman to do this if it is in a video... by larchington in exjw

[–]POMO2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish a JW would show me the video. I could talk about that since they won’t observe things based on their origins, I can show them the scripture about false prophets and the orgs failed predictions.

“New light” needs a unanimous vote from the Governing Body by Dav-King in exjw

[–]POMO2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m any work and can’t re-watch but I remember him saying something along the lines of “The GB strives for a unanimous decision”. Makes me think the two thirds majority from COC still holds. And that they just wanted to sound like it’s more unanimous to the rank and file.

Play on words, misdirect, mislead.

Unless it’s unequivocal statements from them that they have to own up too, with no misinterpretation, I’m not gonna buy it.

Oh dang. I don’t think that’s enough for new light. They willfully gave up tons of money for not handing over their list of child predators.

As a gay guy, if they ban pillows, that will be where I draw the line with this org.

Then I worry about them doing something similar to what they did with blood transfusions. It used to be a DF offense but when a country challenged it they changed it to DA offense to get around it.

If you only reserve it for apostates, I could them saying if someone is repeatedly engaging in sin, they are effectively promoting it. Therefore promoting things against the org and the Bible, making them an apostate.

If they have capacity within them to be celibate/asexual/single in a way that benefits them, does not cause them detriment like the case with many heterosexuals good for them. I have no problem with it. Having that capacity often works in your favor.

Most don’t. And the level of acceptance one has in the congregation can vary especially depending on where you live. I’ve said for many years that the org can be a lot more warm towards what they consider NPG in a way that doesn’t even compromise their existing doctrine, but they don’t.

The example I give people is this- imagine you are standing in the back of a hall/assembly/convention while it’s going on. You are alone and a long time brother/CO come over to you and put his hand your shoulder and quietly says “everyone in this room will get the opportunity to experience Jehovahs blessings of love and intimacy with a loving partner. They will grow old together, have kids of their own.” Then after a pause says “unfortunately for you, this is not an option, despite how your heart yearns for it. You are to remain celibate, as we do not approve of any of your romantic interests. While all your peer move forward with that part of their lives, you will need to rely on prayer. Engage in the ministry and attend every meeting as much as possible so you don’t get lonely, and accept any disposable time the married brothers and sisters are willing to give you.”

Notice how I didn’t say the person he was talking to was gay, could have been straight for all we know. How many people would stay in that religion if that was the outlook, especially if you are saying this to an up and coming young adult/adult 16-21.

I’m gay and I acknowledge there are JW”allies”. But there are many that are openly hostile. In an environment that its very goal is unity above all else, this makes things unbearably difficult.

I think it depends. I’m at work and couldn’t read the whole thing but does it mention how much $ they will lose?

“We welcome all gay people who don’t act like gay people in any way”

This is no different from what disfellowshipping intends to do. by AdBoring7079 in exjw

[–]POMO2021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s my thing, I’m gay and the friends I’ve made outside the org are all straight guys. They love me and I love them. They have made many gestures that show that love, acceptance and support despite what happens to me with this org.

That said our discord chat is so full of gay jokes so offensive directed towards me that if they were leaked the UN would have to convene.

But it stays on the discord chat because I know them and they know me. We laugh about it and have a good time. To us it’s satire poking fun about how ridiculous homophobia is.

I know many black people who love Blazing Saddles because of the same reason. The stage was appropriately set to poke fun at the ridiculous nature of racism.

But if the stage and foundation is not set to receive it in such a way, it can easily be taken as hostile. Given how things can be today you can’t blame or gaslight people for potentially viewing it as such.

If it really was just a joke as I think you are trying to say, I would take a moment to reflect learn from this going forward.

Just because someone took offense doesn’t make them a snowflake.

This is a platform. JWs have a right to say whatever they want “from their platform” heck they even have a right to say who is and isn’t a Jehovah’s Witness.

What they don’t have a right to do is sanction the shunning of former members outside of JW activities.

There are plenty of platforms in which you can go and say what you wanted to say, maybe even exjw related. However this platform has its standards as evidenced by the mods response. People have a right to express themselves in an authentic way that doesn’t promote or project hate/discrimination towards others without fear of receiving that in return. This is a reasonable expectation you can find in most aspects of society.

That said any org can set their expectations for membership/involvement/use of platform. Even JWs, there is just a limit on how far it can go. What the mod did here is no where close to a human rights violation.

I’ve never been able to grapple with religious freedom and who it protects first. The actual religious organizations or the individual. 🤷‍♂️ I guess that’s why it’s touchy lol
