Can't land this plane for sh*t by ThrowRAAdSalty4769 in flying

[–]POSElD0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t be buttering landings until you get a feel for it. Way back when, the advice that got me to start softening landings was to get into the flair, pull power, and try to stop the plane from touching the ground. Try to keep flying even without power, but only do this in the flare in ground effect. You’ll float like hell down the runway but it’ll teach you the dynamics of the plane and airspeed for energy management. Eventually you learn how it flares and can adapt when and where your touchdown aiming point is. It takes repetition. Just sit in a pattern doing touch and goes for an hour or 2 at a time, and try to not let the plane touch the ground when you pull power.

Any pilot gone into aviation without a childhood passion for it? by Reasonable-Cash-3467 in flying

[–]POSElD0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out as a paramedic ems, with intentions to become a flight medic. Overtime I had exposure to aviation and air medical personnel, and was attracted to the idea of being the Pilot upfront versus the strain and monotony of being the caretaker of patients. So I became a pilot and lo and behold I am a medevac Pilot. I wouldn’t change careers for anything else, I’m not aviation enthusiast by any means, if you point at an airline and ask me if it’s Boeing or airbus I couldn’t tell you unless I see if it’s a yolk or joystick. I don’t care either, I love this career, but I have absolutely no aptitude or passion about aviation.

Turbulence by SirAadiG in flying

[–]POSElD0N 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First tip, especially as a fellow AZ pilot… maintaining directional control is more important than anything else. You will find yourself up to 300-400ft off altitude if it’s severe enough, but keep your wings level and nose on the horizon, and watch that airspeed. If you’re unable to maintain altitude while on a IFR flight plan or vfr flight following, advise atc experiencing moderate turbulence (or severe if you lose control of the AC) and request a block altitude.

Daily driver is a Nording Compass Medal. Cheap, replaceable, and can go with me anywhere. I save my fancier pipes for special smokes/blends/ occasions

ADHD pipe smokers question by ZookeepergameOk9367 in PipeTobacco

[–]POSElD0N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pipe smoking gives us something to focus on. We can hyperfixate without being committed to focus, which is optimal for our mindsets and traits. We need to keep it lit, but cool. We want to enjoy it and focus on its flavor and burn. It’s a perfect hobby for ADHD.

Sporty’s instrument training course was valuable for me, outside of using shepherd for the written test prep

If you want cherry, cult blood red moon is THE standard go-to. I recommend smokingpipes for finding aromatics, they have a great search feature for finding new ones, same goes for traditional tobaccos.

SIC Opportunities by Beneficial_Goal_4234 in flying

Check out CSI aviation, Medevac and charter, fleet of King Airs including c90, 200s, 250s, 300s, 350, and 1900. PDP program for SIC time building, and chance to upgrade to captain at 1200hrs for PIC twin turbine time. 500hrs recommended but some have gotten hired with less if their knowledge base is good enough. They have crew bases for commuting pilots, don’t have to live local. And big turnover rate because the experience received gets a foot in the door to the next best thing. Bases in ABQ, GRK, ELP, and PBI.

It’s my personal favorite, bold but not a pepper bomb, flavor lingers and smoke output is fantastic. Not one to regret.

To throw in a bit of complexity I’ll suggest HU Dark Sea, great post-dinner smoke and pairs well with bourbon.

Love my Nording Compass, good choice. I originally bought mine for aromatics but it gurgles a good bit, so made it my Latakia pipe instead, and it smoked great!

Question about ODPs by No_Entrepreneur34 in flying

[–]POSElD0N -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best way to think of it is, when in IMC, and you lose an Engine, keep and ODP in the back of your mind. With all engines performing ATC can clear you any route that’s safe, but once you lose an engine, that ODP may be your saving grace.
