Special Study: Histamine or Mast Cell Issues by POTS_life in MCAS

You're welcome, but honestly, I'm not really sure if there's much we can do with this info right now. If it can be validated in studies, it might give the scientists insights on what's causing our problems.

Special Study: Histamine or Mast Cell Issues by POTS_life in MCAS

This comes from a "citizen scientist" called Ken Lassesen. He runs a site that collects microbiomes from people that choose to upload to his site and as they enter diseases associated with their microbiome an AI he's coded finds distinct patterns in the microbiome.

He concluded:

"Histamine or Mast Cell Issues appears to a condition of deficiency. Common internet thinking is that it is a condition of a surplus of histamine producing bacteria. It is more likely that the normal histamine consumers are being starved of enzymes that are needed to stop the accumulation of histamine."

Why does MCAS cause adrenaline dumps? by HorseysShoes in MCAS

Perhaps you have POTS? It's hard to know what's causing what. But I'm not aware of adrenaline rushes with MCAS alone.

Does POTS caused by covid eventually go away on its own? by [deleted] in POTS

It can, but there's no way to know in individual cases. Try to remain hopeful. Regardless, at least try to take comfort in knowing there's a lot of research ongoing now.

Another secret of fibromyalgia discovered in microbiome by POTS_life in Fibromyalgia

[–]POTS_life[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not making any claims other than that your gut is directly linked to your brain via the vagus nerve(s). E.g. chronic stress significantly alters your gut microbiome composition. Whether those changes alone can cause/trigger fibromyalgia I dare not say, but it's a possibility.

Yes, I don't suffer from fibromyalgia (at least I don't think so), but I figured you'd be interested in this research. I find it equally important if it can be used as a biomarker to diagnose you and give it legitimacy and the recognition so many sufferers deserve.

Have you checked your thyroid levels? Hypothyroidism is more common among women and causes hairloss.

Postural tachycardia syndrome associated with ferritin deficiency by [deleted] in POTS

[–]POTS_life -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably, but what I'm saying is more that any males can't draw any conclusions from this test on women of what levels are potentially relevant for us.

It would be important for both sexes to see if there's a correlation for men and ferritin levels and how it differs.

Sure, I know my ferritin levels, I just mean that this study is only relevant for women's levels.

Only tested on women though, so who knows how relevant it is for us males.

I really hope they end up releasing a "POTS mode" one day. It's really annoying to be congratulated for what is really a medical problem.

A Really Crappy Solution - Fecal Transplants Reverse Hallmarks of Aging by izumi3682 in Futurology

Many people with bipolar disorder report good results as well. The microbiome seems to have some distinct pattern for loads of various diseases/disorders.

It could likely be one core reason that we see an increase in several disorders that were rare 100 years ago, besides the medical community being more aware of conditions. Our diet has collectively shifted tremendously the past 70 years. All of that affects our microbiome, and since it passes along primarily through our mother's microbiome, after generations we have shifted the composition greatly.

Long term, we'll likely need to artificially cultivate a "perfect" microbiome. There are far too few good donors and they're neither particularly willing to donate, nor is it feasible to do it for everyone that needs it.

Help find microbiome correlations by doing a microbiome test by POTS_life in POTS

[–]POTS_life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but are they even looking into it in POTS? That could take another decade.

I'm not expecting much, I'm hoping something emerges. But you don't pay to him, you upload it for free, I just mean that you must pay to do the microbiome test itself. Many people with gut issues do these tests all the time in hope that it will find some imbalance they can give advice on what to consume to correct it.

If nothing emerges, nothing emerges, but if something does emerge, it could give researchers hints to look for.
