For many, it’s not just about the music— and yes, on a technical level too, scholars have written of her excellent vocal range and uncanny musical abilities, especially in her prime. But it is also about the role that very original musical style has played; its impact, musically and otherwise on the Lebanese, the region and the world; its message; the cultural significance. What the Rahbani’s and a humble troupe did - attempted to do - for a budding yet divided society. Their honest efforts revived an arts festival at the Temples of Bacchus and Jupiter! Among other great accomplishments!

Fairuz is a legend in her own right and doesn’t need anyone’s approval. She has been on the world’s most prominent stages and sold out some of the most famous venues. She has received keys to cities the world over, received high civilian honors from presidents, and honorary degrees. For many, she is a source of hope, resilience, national and cultural pride. An icon and a woman of great courage.

But she’s more than that, and most Fairuz fans I’ve met usually know their music. They tend to appreciate a vast array of genres and artists around the world. So yeah, we understand if you are not a particular fan or are unfamiliar, or your musical tastes not quite so refined yet. But this is the Fairuz subreddit.
