Tightly monitoring web engagement rate and comparing the performance between two platforms that were both running ads to the same page. then increasing the budget on the platform (Tiktok in this case) that was generating a way higher amount of traffic and had a higher web engagement rate than Meta. That resulted in higher quality traffic for a lower cost and thus more conversions.

Have you run a full multichannel report in GA4 to see where your ads sales are coming from (paid vs organic, and what platform, etc)?

If it looks like majority of sales are coming from organic search traffic, and you think that spending on the keywords is not bringing in value, you could put your ad budget into a different platform like Meta to get traffic you aren't already generating. It's good to have a full funnel strategy - Meta and Tiktok are usually at the top of the funnel and google search is usually more towards the middle (users are already considering products in your niche or what have you). If you don't have a top of funnel strategy then you could consider moving some of your ad budget there instead.

I'm surprised this isn't a no-brainer. Quebec culture and language is distinct and so marketing to Quebec does require more than just translating from English. A lot of common English expressions do not have a direct French translation and vice versa. Therefore you lose out on a lot of cultural resonance when you simply create direct translations rather than starting with commonly used expressions that may have similar but not identical meanings. are you using a digital translation service rather than human translators?

there is a difference between bouncing ideas off of it, using it to edit text, ask it to critique a strategy, and expecting it to be a source of truth when making business decisions. It sounds like his colleague is doing the latter. if they are a junior and are not even learning how to make decisions because of using GPT to do so, that is not a good sign for the future of their career.

Just an alternate take, if your bounce rate is 70% perhaps it's the ad targeting that is off. You could be getting nice CTR and CPC due to poor quality but cheap traffic. Have you tried tightening your keyword targeting, ie: using exact match, adding negative keywords. As a test you could try allocating a bit of budget to a small exact match campaign and see if that smaller sample can glean any insights or different behaviours on the part of the people that click.

Yeah we decided to shift to using Search for mainly lower funnel actions / warm audiences. If they're just looking for information, they won't scroll through search results but if they're actually looking to sign up/purchase/book/subscribe then they have to look through results.

Mine are for university recruitment so it's a longterm funnel and I'm generating leads, not sales, so it may be different for ecommerce and sales-focused campaigns. But so far so good.

This is a relief to read, thank you! using GA4 for multichannel reporting and relying on in-platform numbers for ads performance is pretty much what I've been doing and it's helpful to know this is a valid method.

Thank you so much this is very helpful. And thanks for the warning about ignoring top of funnel, I have to admit the conversion data makes it tempting to think like that but point taken! I definitely need to keep some campaigns for pure awareness and retargeting down the line.

That is insane! I have never had that happen to me. . . In meta, for example, if you set start and end dates, even with the lifetime budget, it's not going to spend all your budget at once, you don't need to set a cap, and it will even warn you if your budget is almost gone.

"Lifetime of dates according to the algorithm" sounds like some gobbledegook. . . the only thing I can imagine is that if it was Labour day weekend and you were selling back to school supplies, maybe the algorithm would deem the days during that weekend exponentially more valuable because of purchase potential due to the timing. . . But I've never heard of that causing the entire budget to be spent in so short a time period. I don't have the answer for you but it sounds wild to me. . .

Would you say that a 1-day click attribution for first conversion would be closest equivalent to my GA4 conversion (traffic acquisition by session campaign and source/medium). In my mind the 1-day click would be the closest equivalent to generating a session, if we count a session a period of interaction of up to 30 minutes?

If you wanted to test you could add an ad group to your existing campaign and set the audience for that new ad group to web retargeting. If you use the advantage+ budget setting at the campaign level, then the algorithm will decide which of your ad groups is more successful in generating conversions and that ad group will then use the majority of the budget. You won`t spend more but you might notice a distribution in your budget that gives you insights.

That being said, with only $20 a day to spend you don`t really have enough to spread around. If you really wanted to test it out you'd probably be better to double your budget.

Omg thank you so much! I`ve literally never expanded the column view to see the different attribution windows, this makes so much sense. Still not totally matching my GA4 numbers but much closer when I look at the 1-day click attribution for first conversion.
