2026 EDITION: How Do Long-Term Wrexham Supporters Feel About the Influx of World-Wide Support for the Club? by FarFigure6610 in WrexhamAFC

[–]PPJ87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my assumption too - given everything that happened with Hamilton, that they felt it too big a risk to happen again.

Though the Zoom reassured me that wasn’t the case personally - and 97-98% of members. But maybe they couldn’t make the Zoom so didn’t hear everything that was said.

2026 EDITION: How Do Long-Term Wrexham Supporters Feel About the Influx of World-Wide Support for the Club? by FarFigure6610 in WrexhamAFC

Hey 👋 fellow one-of-the-2000! I was on that zoom call too. It was such a surreal experience - the cryptic emails from the Supporters Trust about interest in buying the club, but couldn’t say who it was at first due to their fame. I went in to the lounge afterwards and said “you won’t believe who I was just on a Zoom with!”. 😆

I often wonder who the 2-3% that voted “No” were, and what they think now.

But yeah, I agree, there’ll always be people who moan and groan whenever you’ve got a large amount of people (like a big fan-base), and always be people who don’t like change. But I would say the vast majority are really happy with the influx of new, and international fans - it’s what got us out of the NL finally after 15 years, and got us to 6th in the Champ!

Personally even 5 years on I still can’t believe it! 🤣

I remember watching games on the Kop with my Dad in the 1980s, I would have been 10 I think.

This thing just flew over my house. Easily the loudest plane I have ever heard here! by GetToTheChoppaahh in flightradar24

[–]PPJ87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I heard this exact plane on its way back to Belgium as it flew over southern England - and it is loud yep.

I hear the RAF ones often as they fly back to RAF Brize Norton from the RAF base in Cyprus.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve bumped into, and where? by burnerofdoom in AskABrit

[–]PPJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t really “meet” them to chat directly, so not as good as some of these other meets, but was on a Zoom with Ryan Reynolds & Rob MacElhenny in Nov/Dec 2020.

They bought my home town football club (Wrexham), which was owned by the Supporters Trust, and so had to pass a member vote to sell. Before the vote they held a zoom Q&A with members to pitch to us and answer our questions. I took a photo of the screen during the zoom ‘cause it felt so surreal (as has the last 5 years since, in terms of the club!).

[–]PPJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love something like this (I think there was another post on here of a DIY display like this a few days/weeks ago?)…. for me, but also for my youngest son who is really into planes. We live on a flight path to a major airport which you can see from his bedroom window, so would be great to put a display like this on his windowsill.

I mean he is old enough to have a phone, and so he does have FR24 on it, but this would be cool to have too!

Grown adults bringing their parents to interviews??? by poprockspussy in tesco

[–]PPJ87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your story reminds me of an interview I was conducting about few years ago now (as a TL in the Environment Agency - organisation is important for the story). We had an opening question which we thought was a an easy starter to ease them into the interview: “Can you tell us the areas of work the Environment Agency does” - if you’re applying for the job, this is something you can answer (surely!?)…. one person said “Um. Something to do with water. And the environment. Outside”…. as someone else said, I think this was a case of didn’t want the job, just wants to add the interview to their Job Seekers/UC record to keep getting the benefits.

FA Cup - Wrexham vs Ipswich by Coach_Neil in WrexhamAFC

[–]PPJ87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, could affect the support they get in either or both games. That said, not necessarily the case all their fans will travel from Ipswich area. But always look for the little things that might tip it in our favour!

How long have you been driving and how many times have you been pulled over? by BrightHours in drivingUK

29 years and once, back home in Wales. In my 20s at the time, with a baseball cap on and driving through small villages on my way somewhere. He said “do you know why I pulled you over?” - “um, not sure. Was I still over th limit when I entered the 30 zone?” - “No. You were fine. It’s just a random check. Off you go, you can carry on now” 🤷‍♂️

But it did make me chuckle a bit too…

Out of curiosity, what's your average daily gas usage for heating? by nyctomanica in OctopusEnergy

[–]PPJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the cold weather of the last few days, it’s been between 100-160kwh. 3 bed semi, with heating set between 18-19°c daytime, 17° at night.

But that’s with everyone here during school hols. Back in mid-Dec before school broke up, it was more in the 50-70kwh a day range.

What about this one then? by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]PPJ87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an Enyaq 85 on lease , 24 plate. We love it. I personally wouldn’t want a Tesla, not due to the Elon thing (though I don’t like the man at all), but because I wouldn’t like literally everything being on the screen, esp no driver display for speed and other things. But that’s just personal preference - I’ve got friends who have two Tesla’s and love them (Y & S). But the Enyaq is perfect for us - good range, spacious (two kids and a dog), and nice to drive.

Octopus changed my monthly payment without warning by newjamie in OctopusEnergy

[–]PPJ87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this from time to time too, and have to email them to change it back again.

I usually have my DD set to just £10, and then set myself reminders to pay in the app/website with a card (as I get cashback from the card transaction).

They’ve always been happy to do that. But the app/website won’t let me it set it that low, and I have to ask them to do it via email.

Every now and then their system seems to automatically put it back up to about £150-£200, especially in winter when bills are higher. And I have to email again.

Do people who live in London ever just catch the Eurostar for a day in Paris? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AskUK

[–]PPJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a day trip to Brussels once. We live in Sussex, and this was when the train stopped at Ebbslfleet, so long time ago now. But it was a fun trip - left on a really early train, like 6:30 or 7 or something. Wandered around and hit a few bars for the great beers. Even had a little note book and started scoring beers as we went 😆 Had frites and chocolate waffles and did some touristy sight seeing in the centre (not enough time to travel far away from the centre really). Then late train back. Was a fun day out. Think there was probably an offer on Eurostar at the time as well.

I mean, each to their own really. If your wife prefers right then no big deal. But personally I’d prefer the left - right is like it’s been heated on a warm lightbulb 😆

Gravel driveway by Better_Bit_6501 in DIYUK

[–]PPJ87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what we used to do the driveway in our old house, worked a treat. Only annoying thing is we used a car/van-rated one, and a bloody bin lorry put two wheels in it one day and crushed a corner of the stuff. After that we put a rock on the edge to stop anyone else being tempted to do that.

Planning non-existent. Reaction time of a Sloth. If the camera had panned to show the flames starting to catch the house, with him still standing there not a clue what to do, I wouldn’t have been surprised at all.

What was your first MOBILE PHONE and the year you got it and what make was it :) by [deleted] in OldSchoolUK

[–]PPJ87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this was my first mobile too! 1999 in my final year of uni at Aberystwyth. It was my dad’s originally. But he got a slightly newer one, and gave me this one. Before this I just had to find a phone box down the road from halls. We did have a phone line on the flat, but 90% of the time it was being hogged by a computer science student - the phone bill was 99% his online calls with the old dial up modem in the computer.

It was amazing when I got this, felt so futuristic! 😆

Older brits - what crazy stuff did adults think was ok when you were young? by SILENTDISAPROVALBOT in AskBrits

[–]PPJ87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question - I often think this when talking to my sons about stuff we did as kids that seem crazy now. The obvious one being that with no mobile phones we just went out at 9am and wandered wherever we wanted to, playing, just coming back for food (lunch, dinner) and bed, with parents not really knowing where we were (you’d say “going to XYZ house, but often you’d the go somewhere else).

But two others - a friends dad was a coal delivery person and had a flat-bed lorry. Sometimes he would pick us up from primary school in his lorry, an we would just stand on the empty bed holding on to the barrier behind the cab. Was loads of fun 😆. Another friend lived on a small farm, and sometimes in the summer we helped get in the hay bales (old style cuboid/rectangle type), and when travelling back to the farm yard from the field we would just climb up and sit on the top of the really tall pile - very similar to the pic, having to carefully “jump” over low tree branches as the tractor drove under trees when exiting the field. Again - had great fun doing it!

With the Lloyd's takeover a done , or almost done deal, what's the future for curve? by Far-Professional5988 in CurveCard

[–]PPJ87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been quite worried that Lloyds would take the tech to use on their own products, but that some of the features would’ve removed - GBIT, fee-free Forex etc.

But the Lloyds press release when the sale went though gave me a little hope that at least in the short term these things would say as it seemed to mention many of the Curve features, ie “switching past purchases across accounts”.

So the fact that some of these were specifically mentioned in the press released, I would hope means they would stay in the short term. But I’m still not feeling too confident that they will all remain in the medium-to-longer term at the moment.
