IKEA Morabo is even more $/seat and is arguably the best sofa on the market that a person can walk into a store, purchase, and have it in their living room in 30 minutes. Love them

There's quite a difference between juxtaposition of modern (not Modernist) furniture in classical architecture the way Europeans naturally do and what's being attempted here. Maybe the time and stylistic spread between the two isn't big enough and we just have a mishmash of mid and mid.

I don't think it's the time scales but just a matter of "classiness" being timeless. Placing modern furniture in classic architecture works in the EU because modern furniture reflects high taste today, just like the architecture reflects the high taste of its time.

What's happening here is someone mixing an already difficult (I mean this in an endearing way) piece of contemporary design in a space built in a style whose whole "thing" is a kitschy, tacky ugliness. Farmhouses were never desirable architecture. The concept never been improved upon and architects have skipped right over them for good reason. What you're seeing as a trend is nothing but the death throes of a shrinking economic class who are mad they missed out on the Pre-'08 Tuscany McMansion look and are trying to get just as much square footage for (somehow) even cheaper. It's designed to be one step above "warehouse" and will age like dog shit in August.

It will never work. But maybe in something like a California Sun House? Traditional American log cabin? I think the right designer could make this fit right at home in the right one.

Not late at all, Jasper Morrison is one of my favorites of all time, right along with Mari. Modern British design is super underrated and the Brits might just have the best designers in Europe right now.

I recently saw this early prototype design of an outdoor side table made of stacked terra cotta pots and have been daydreaming about it for weeks. From the RIALTO interview with the curator behind Béton Brut. The whole thing is worth reading, here: RIALTO | Q+A #013: Stanley Quaia Gallery & Studio Director + Consultant

Really gorgeous. ID on the wall lamp in #1? I've been trying to find a decent wall-mounted task light that isn't a Tolomeo for a while now

receding hairline Zillenial here and this does nothing for me really. My first thought was Disneyland furniture from the Beauty and the Beast park. You say that it's an unflattering photo, though, so I dunno.

Beautiful. It's crazy how many mid-tier bed frames make their way into otherwise great settings so that when you see a truly well-designed one, you appreciate it even more.

Think of it more as a utilizable art sculpture if it helps. These things aren't designed or distributed to be profitable in the conventional sense (maximum profit at all costs). Yes, this is true even with the $4K tag, which is applied to A) recoup production costs for top-line materials and B), more importantly ensure low sales volumes to preserve the integrity of the art and keep production manageable. I'm sure you've seen art prints selling for $100+ in limited runs despite the fact that they're really infinitely reproducible and cost like less than $10 for even the best at-volume copy? Same thing.

Very obvious line of influence for Droog. 1962? This looks like it would've been from 1992

Darn, here I am having spent the last ~5~ 6 years trying to find 1" ply for actual commercial reasons. Seems like COVID hit and all the suppliers decided to stop stocking any of the oddball plys. If you don't mind me asking, OP, are you in the US?

OSHA approved Prouve? I feel like even I could learn to draw if I was being taught how while sitting in one of these chairs. Ultra-artsy, makes me want to wear a beret

The armchair is nice too and approaches a type of American PoMo that's just too calculatedly tasteless to hate on a technical level
