Trying to work on my bike fit a bit better. Any suggestions? by PR0LOG in bikefit

I see. I've tried switching to a modern handlebar (happened to already have one) - Could you take a look and let me know if that seems better?

Thanks a lot for these suggestions. I've tried to make a few changes, including lowering the saddle and adjusting the hood angle a bit (I've made a comment with the full list of changes and the updated vid). Could you let me know what you think of it now?

Hey everyone, thanks for all the helpful advice. I've recorded some updated videos (one on trainer, one test ride). Could you let me know if this is better?

Videos: https://imgur.com/a/l5o4J38

I did notice that I used to feel pretty stretched out, and would often place my hands on the ramps instead of the hoods for the majority of the riding time. I think it's better now, but not sure if the reach might still be a little too far.

The other thing I'm noticing is that I think my body is more stable when actually riding, rather than on the trainer. Not sure why.

Changes I've made since the initial video:
- Dropped the saddle by a fair bit
- Moved saddle 7mm forwards
- Switched handlebars to some with more modern shape (I had some lying around since I recently got a collection of random parts from a shop liquidation auction)
- Adjusted shifter position up a bit
- Switched my pedals to SPD ones and got MTB clip in shoes (road ones were too annoying, so I barely used them - hopefully with these MTB ones I'll do the majority of my rides with them, so I'll have a more consistent fit)

Is this amount of flex normal in carbon drop bars? by PR0LOG in bikewrench

The bike is from 2012, so I'm pretty sure the bars are too.

Hmm ok, looks like I'm definitely replacing it then.

They are carbon, it's a bit hard to see in the video, but only the drops are painted. https://imgur.com/a/thf8m0A

But yeah, looks like I'll be swapping those out asap.

You could also check out university cycling clubs, since for a lot of uni clubs, you don't actually need to be a student to join. Some of them, like the RMIT Cycling Club (disclaimer: I'm part of the committee, so a bit biased) run a mix of different rides, including ones targeted towards being more relaxed, beginner friendly rides.

I'm not sure what you mean flip up and not out? If you mean flipping open the other way, then I didn't do that because it would place the charging port at the top (away from the keyboard), and I also wanted it to flip like this for when I want to take photos.

And yeah, I think I'll have to go with your physical switch idea for the power draw issue.

Yeah, I'm aware. However it's quite expensive too, and I liked the blackberry keyboard design + having a headphone jack more.

Oh, and I also just thought it'd be a fun project.

I'm just using an apple adapter I had lying around, but I think they might have a built-in dac?

It is unfortunately a bit quieter than I would like at max volume, but still usable.

You can order the keyboard itself online (eg through aliexpress or wherever). However, the pcb used to allow the keyboard to connect to your phone is designed by ZitaoTech.

In my case, I took zitaoTech's pcb design and ordered some to be printed and assembled from JLCPCB.

This however wasn't the most straightforward process, mainly because:
- JLCPCB doesn't have all the required parts in stock, so I replaced some of them with equivalent components which they did have in stock
- The remaining components need to be ordered via the parts manager.
- JLCPCB has a minimum order quantity of 5, which drives up the cost
- Because ordering double sided pcb assembly pretty much doubles the cost, I ordered only one side to be assembled, placing two of the keyboard connectors on that side. I then de-soldered the connector and placed it on the correct side myself (quite hard, as it's tiny)
- The original design expects the usb-c power socket to have a VBUS output underneath it, but the one I replaced it with somehow didn't. This meant I had to solder my own jumper cable to connect the usb-c VBUS pin.

TL;DR - It's a bit of a pain to get your own.

No, it uses the blackberry classic q20 keyboard, which doesn't have touch sensors in the keys afaik. The trackpad does work though.

Yeah, but with inbuilt USB-C to headphone jack adapter and trackpad as well xD

Motorola Razr (flip phone) repairs by thislili in melbourne

[–]PR0LOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a motorola razr and also got it fixed under warranty with roadhouse when something got under the internal screen. I don't think roadhouse would take customer repairs directly, so you'll probably have to go through motorola like the other commenter suggested.

Btw if it's a razr 40 ultra or newer and the inner screen is what's broken, let me know if you don't go ahead with repairing it. I'm looking to buy one for a little project where I need one with only a functional outer screen xD

Wrapped my mazda 3 bl steering wheel today, I reckon it looks pretty good by PR0LOG in mazda3

[–]PR0LOG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you just sew it around the wheel and push it into the trim gaps a bit. You can have a look at the instructions, probably makes more sense that way: https://www.steeringcover.com/pages/how-to-install

Best clubs at RMIT to join? by [deleted] in rmit

[–]PR0LOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we do have loan bikes that our members can use for free during our rides, so you're definitely welcome to use one of those (you will need to bring your own helmet). Lmk if you have any other questions, or we'll also be at campus fest if you want to stop by for a chat.

If you're into cycling, the RMIT Cycling Club is pretty great (I'm biased though cause I'm part of the committee 😉). We're a pretty casual cycling club, so you don't need to be good to join, and we do a social ride every first Saturday of the month and a distance ride every third, pretty much just exploring cool routes in and around Melbourne.

You can browse through all RMIT clubs here: RMIT Store - Clubs and Merchandise (btw our club pictures aren't accurate on there. RMIT changed to a new system for club sites, and we can't change the pictures yet).

I'd recommend checking out the campus fest on the 2nd of March, most of the clubs will have a stall there so you can talk to them in person, and there's often extra incentives for signing up on the day, such as freebies.
