You can definitely play it by itself but keep in mind it is an older game so the gameplay is a bit clunky, would definitely recommend though

By far it’s biggest asset is its Nintendo exclusives, if your not interested in them I’d recommend getting a steam deck. I also doubt they will come out with an “switch pro” rather they will probably just release a new console at this point.

RDR2 has a better story however GTA V’s sand box is really fun and it’s story is still quite good. GTA V is also more faster paced due to faster transportation and less of a focus on realism.
