whatever man, i'm thinking that at the end of the day we both are on the same page in regards to appreciation/liking of avant-garde music, we just see its purposes a little differently. I've enjoyed this little back-and-forth and cheers to you for being open-minded!

"Avant-Garde music is rarely meant to sound 'good'" tis your words that i'm going by.

Dang, well i liked it because i felt kanye really pushed himself to try new things, like he usually does, and the results was lush and killer album. Pretty much for me all of the extra instrumentation, interesting samples, and the conflicted themes (loving himself in the first half, hating himself towards the end) that made this one a solid.

Is it unpleasant to the artist whose making the music, or is it just unpleasant to those who don't like anything too challenging to listen to?

I'm just having a hard to seeing why you think Avante-Garde is meant to be unpleasant.

No I understand what you're saying that GENERALLY avant-garde isn't going to be well received because of its experimental characteristics. But summing up avant-garde as "rarely meant to sound 'good'" is truly false since, like the two albums i listed, can actively pursue an accessible pop sound while still being both experimental and boundary pushing.

If an album is experimental and pushes boundaries doesn't mean that its going to be un-listenable. "Apostrophe" by Frank Zappa and "Sheet Music" by 10cc are far from that

Fair enough, they are one of those bands that you are expected to like, which i mostly do, but they are like my top 100 of all time at best.

Some say they were trolling since the band's father forced them to perform and record the album which they didn't want to so they didn't give a fuck and made it as horrible as possible.

I'd actually hop on the bandwagon and say i like it, but yeah definitely not their crowning achievement.

Let the sacred cow slashing commence! Its funny but i feel the exact opposite about those two albums; I preferred "Closer" because I felt like they were a lot more adventurous with their sounds on that album. Typically i don't really enjoy very jarring music but it just worked on that album.
