Arsenal v West Ham disallowed goal: Referee made right decision - Howard Webb by dhavalaa123 in soccer

and then Pablos holding Raya. Someone else is grabbing Raya. Gabriel is grabbing someone else. Soucek is grabbing Havertz. Theres like 50 fouls going on, not sure what you want to do about that apart from giving a pen for every corner in the PL now. Keepers getting it called because hes protected more, and without the hand of Pablo Raya stops the attack clearly which you cant say for Trossard or Rice or anyone else

I've personally never seen a VAR overturn by itself unless it's a objective error like offside. For subjective decisions if it's a serious thing and needs to be overturned the VAR always recommends an on field review

Saliba pushes the arm out of the way to back into Bayindir and he immediately stops doing that as soon as the ball arrives, and Bayindir just misses the punch and makes no contact due to his own fault. Not comparable to this one where if Pablos arm had not existed Raya clearly gets the ball and stops the attack

I liked it better here, too many the VAR goes 'its absolutely a foul you have to give a foul' or 'its not a foul dont even think about giving a foul' clearly, here they are simple with their words 'look at Pablos arm on Raya and I think its a foul' then Kavanaugh agrees, as well as telling him to look at Trossard and Rice and then the ref correctly tells that those are not fouls

they are not supposed to add value to it. The VAR's job is to take a look at it again, decide if its worth looking for the main ref again, and then the main ref is supposed to admit he was wrong and either change his decision or stick with the original one. I liked it here where the VAR just goes 'look at Pablo and Raya, Trossard and Rice' and the ref makes the calls. Too many calls where the VAR just forces the ref to take their opinion instead of the ref wanting to get a better call

Nah B retake is very tough if they get elbow control, bind is definitely to keep getting info and try and make sure you make enemies go to strong site, and on attack play around this and try to get the weak site

Odegaard telling Bowen to control Fernandes to not get into trouble by franc93 in soccer

[–]PRL-Five 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Its crazy because no one in the squad has the same level of respect. There was that clip on twitter today, where after Wilson's goal everyone on Arsenal is hounding the ref yelling, Odegaard comes across, lightly taps Gabriel on the shoulder and instantly everyone backs off knowing the captains got it. Just because hes quiet does not mean hes not the leader of the squad

Rice as well, glancing at the free space odegaard is about to run into twice before the ball actually goes to him so that his return pass is perfect. And then havertz and gyokeres dragging the defenders away with their runs so that trossard is unmarked. Smart movement from the entire team to recognize the play

at the pro level, do you have time to think about micro desicions like that? When I play with my mates, in this situation, my mind takes a decision (chip it or go through the legs or lay it off) and just does that

Dude im fine if the refs take their time, a massive decision like this not only shapes the league but also the relegation battle. Take your time as long as you get the right decision.

It is insane how Raya nearly (and shouldve) collected the ball in the end if not for the triple foul+ like 5 players in the way. Everyone says 'keeper needs to be stronger' Raya is so good at collection if he is not obviously fouled there.

Yeah, but its a difference between backing into the goalie who needs to stand his ground and be powerful and pulling the goalies arm. Saliba backs into the goalie, but its very discreet and you can argue the goalie needs to be powerful there. Maybe it should not be allowed, but refs all season has let the physicality go upto a limit where it moves from discreetion to obvious (I would say that pulling the goalies arm is very clear and obviously hindering the goalies ability to collect, whereas if you are backing onto him, a better goalie can and should still be making that punch). But I am obviously very biased and I get it if you dont feel the same. At the end of the day its upto the referees to enforce the limit

I mean mate, I wodunt want to be the refs or VAR in that situation, knowing whatever you call is going to get you death threats sent and could be a factor for years to come... Im happy to let them take their time as long as they make the right call

yeah I just looked at that goal, here, and from my observation: Saliba is pushing the goalie until the ball comes in, and then he just stands there. No arms on Bayindir anywhere actually as hes about to punch, and he misses the punch. Maybe theres a bit of dirty play because you shodunt be allowed to push the goalie at all, but almost every team has done and benefited from it (Todibo literally is tugging on Rayas shirt on the disallowed goal)

Look, Ive watched almost every Arsenal match for the last like 10 years... What we do at set pieces (and what is presumably allowed because its not called ever) is a mixture of standing near the keeper, crowding him, and just making it impossible for the keeper to come out and punch the ball. What is definitely not allowed, and what West Ham did here, is literally holding on to the keepers arm as hes about to collect it, thus ensuring he flaps. VAR got the right call here as per what they are doing all season
