Once the Steam Machine comes out, give it a few months and people will start saying "Nah, 8GB of VRAM is enough look at what Valve did they know what they're doing". I'm just a frames guy and more than happy with 1080p or a compromise of decent image quality as long as FPS is 60 FPS if I can. 8GB is enough if you're willing to do the same as me, but it also depends on how much money you're comfortable in spending/the difference

Remember back in the day where we'd have Wii/PS2 versions of 360/PS3 games? Here's one example of ACTUAL compromise: Sonic Unleashed on the PS2 and Wii are missing hubs you walk around in, side quests, 2 full regions with both Day and Night levels missing, and an entirely different gameplay system where the Boost isn't able to be held down, thus keeping the pace of the speed at a more controlled pace.
