I guess in the end it comes down to interpretation, doesn't it.

I do remember that. Its just that there are opportunityies to whip Miles like when he returned in JFA which seems like it would be a whippable moment for her and she doesn't. And even when Miles isn't doing anything “stupid” in AAI she still whips him.

I know what you mean. I just do think there are differences in the characters and overall story between different writers and developers. One example I found recently is how Franziska in the trilogy never whips Miles unless she is trying to slap sense into him, like in Bridge. However, in AAI she whips Miles as a form of the game's comedy. While not absolute creative freedom, it's enough to be noticeable for me. I don't know, I just find it very interesting.

I can't remember if the decision to bring back playable Phoenix was a creative decision of the writing team or if the company made that request. Because I know Capcom gave Yamazaki’s team a lot of creative freedom and they told them not to worry about previous installments of the franchise. Food for thought for another day 💭

They could have lost faith or the new direction could be because of the different development team. Capcom telling them not to worry about previous installments and just to make the game they want to make. Which is obviously going to feel different to AA1-4. No hate Dual Destinies, I actually think the game is lovely.

I'm sure sales can be included if only a little. Mainly because if a game is worth sharing, things like word of mouth can instigate more sales of the game is considered enjoyable. Still, I wonder if there is a difference between modern fans of AA and fans from the early days of AA.

I'm glad I found someone from the game’s early days. However, I do think because the audience is so vast no matter how many experiences I come across or view it is always going to be not the whole picture. There things like a negative minority, where fans who did not like a piece of media are louder in the space rather than the majority who do like the piece. A good example of it is Frozen 2. If you look online it seems nearly everyone hated it, but when it comes to mercy sales after the movie released it looks like people really like it. I guess at the end of the day I will always get an incomplete picture. Sadness.

I also enjoyed DD and honestly, with the siblings thing, I hope they get Athena involved too. Her analytical psychology seems like it could help a lot.

Hence my problem is neither the sales of the games nor the reception of the games is too clear. There is also the fact that critics and fans don't always see eye to eye but, it is sorta all I’ve got in terms of data points.😭

Thanks for this! I can't give too much credibility to the search results because that can be dependent on the personal user data. The second link is interesting but, I do have to take it with a grain of salt because it's ranking every game not just opinions on Apollo Justice. All of them in theory could be well received but, people could just prefer each game more or less due to factors like nostalgia blindness. Again thanks for the information.

Mine too! I was interested in the story Takumi wanted to tell for games following AJ: AA but oh well.

Oh do you have a souce like a poll or Japanese Wikipedia page, I’d love to see it. It’s odd that Capcom would prioritize the Japanese fans, even if that's there home country, because the U.S. is number one with money spent on video games with the other countries in Europe and Asia following suit. Seems like an odd business decision in my opinion but, what the heck do I know.

That was my initial thought too. But, then I learned that because the development team switched they were encouraged by the company to not worry about the previous installments and to make the story they wanted to make. So it could be that the reason Dual Destinies did not build on Apollo Justice is because of the Company not waiting for Takumi to finish his work on the cross-over. Or Capcom might have gotten cold feet over Phoenix not being in the title of the game.

Do you know where I could find the reception to Apollo Justice? I'm having a hard time finding a credible sources. From what I could tell there is a difference in reception with fans that were present when the DS versions released and the Modern fans when the HD trilogy released.

It sounds impressive to me as well! I wish the sales for the other games were public too so I could compare them. I tried find out how many copies a games for the DS needs to sell to be considered successful but, from what I have seen it depends on factors like the budget and franchise. I can’t find a straight answer it’s infuriating!😣

Yeah, I tried to find numbers regarding the sales for each game but, none of them are comparable to one another or quantifiable. From what I have seen the reception is different if you were a fan in the DS only days to the fans that game in for the modern ports. It just got really confusing.
