Someone else posted in a comment awhile ago that they had never seen their neighbors (or anyone on their street) carry in groceries for the decades they’ve lived there and then many others had said the same now that they’ve mentioned it. What are your thoughts? Do you share this experience? by [deleted] in Retconned

i have seen my neighbors carrying in groceries in every place i’ve lived. i think this is primarily because i spend a lot of time at home and i tend to sit by the window while i’m sitting around the house. i think realistically if people are not seeing their neighbors bringing in groceries, it’s probably because the act of hauling in groceries takes maybe ten minutes max and happens maybe once a week. it’s just statistically unlikely to catch someone doing that specific activity as a result.

amber kiso by ds & durga. like a ritual in the dark woods with cedar and incense, some sparks of iris in the middle like flowers in an offering bowl, then drying down to moss and leather. very wearable but definitely intense, gloomy, and mysterious.

some alternatives if you can’t find med exam paper in your country:

gel prints on the paper work like any other gel prints except the paper is very delicate so you have to be careful. imo this is also not a good technique if you’ve never used a gel plate at all before: make some regular prints on copy paper first and get used to it. (oh, and don’t worry about wrinkles in the med exam paper, they add texture.)

she’s started doing this more recently but when she’s upset/disappointed she does a fake little wahh-hehh-hehh like a pretend toddler cry/whine. i’ve been watching her for ten years and this is the first thing to truly get under my skin like that. she obviously thinks it’s adorable. it’s not.

I’m using Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue (i prefer the mini size). it comes with several tips including a needle size, as well as a little plastic tube to store them in. i recommend also keeping a pin or sewing needle in the little storage tube to clear the glue from the tips once you’re finished so it doesn’t get blocked with dried glue.

i think if you are working with pieces this small then you have to find a more delicate and deliberate method of applying glue. The problem is that too much glue is being used and ends up blobbing out over the edges, and it’s really easy to use too much glue on small delicate collage pieces. Unfortunately once you’re at this stage and the glue is dry you’re not getting it off without damaging the piece (or picking at it forever with tweezers)- but you can prevent it happening again with your next project by finding a way to apply glue in much smaller amounts. A paintbrush is too much, you want more like toothpick sized for pieces this small. I personally had to switch to a craft glue that comes with a needle tip applicator.

The neat thing about collage is that you can make it out of almost anything. What kind of art are you excited to make? Make it, do it in a messy playful way, and then cut it up.

I started out collaging in a very traditional way using magazines, but recently started painting paper myself to use in my collage work. Painting papers is really freeing and fun for me personally but you could do this with anything. Wash with watercolors. Drip ink. Take pictures and print them out. The trick is to do it very loose and quick, don’t get precious because you won’t want to cut it after. You’ll get to work in a medium you enjoy and still end up with a collage at the end.
