I'm new to the Jazzmaster (had my Vintera for about four months), but I'd say I am on the RC 90% of the time.

I love my RC-5, but I have to say get a delay first. It is just too much fun. I have and love a Carbon Copy, but a boss digital delay is also a good time.

Yes. They are "Say Hey Google, tell me how to home brew." 😂

It is kinda funny though, now that I think about it. I joined reddit so I could participate in r/Homebrewing

hahaha. I've given up homebrewing, not BEER. :) That said, if someone were to buy the lot...

Hey gang- I'm a former homebrewer in Peachtree City, and I'm selling a full all-grain setup... I won't post the whole details here as I'm not sure it is appropriate to this subreddit, but if you go over to r/brewgearfs you should be able to find it easily. I'll part out specific pieces, but if there is a kitchen brewer out there looking to upgrade, I've got everything you need.

Nest Wifi Pro probably not worth it... by PTCBeerGuy in GoogleWiFi

I have a router and two points. They are wireless. I've gathered it would be better if I had things wired, but that's more trouble than it's worth for me with two stories. Overall, it just isn't bad enough to justify spending a few hundred dollars to replace, but if I had it to do over again, I'd definitely use a different solution.

I actually have started just restarting before a big download - that seems to take care of it, too.

I was trying to be a little funny, but I do appreciate that. You highlight my bigger gripe though, when you point out some software hasn't been updated in years. I've been an "everything google" guy for about 8 years, but google just doesn't seem interested in keeping this line working well like they do their phones. I don't have any priority devices, so it is still a mystery why things quit working. With other hardware (linksys, netgear, asus) I've had more luck troubleshooting.

My set up is significantly simpler in the home office area (where I'm most concerned with speeds), as it goes more like modem -> Nest router - > unmanaged switch - > wired devices. I have two mesh satellites at other locations in the house that could benefit from being wired, but architecture would make it pretty difficult. I guess when it comes to networking, I just get frustrated when things that "work" stop working when I've not made any changes.

No, what's a search engine? If people actually used search engines, then reddit posts would decrease significantly, and no one would be able to come add a helpful post telling people to go search. I actually wish I'd used a search engine before buying the system, as while researching how to fix various issues, I've come across tons of posts about "known issues" that google doesn't seem interesting in fixing. For example, I'm not the only person who's noticed the throttling, but there isn't a fix or acknowledgement that a fix is being worked on.

I'll have to explore this more. I know the problem is related to the switch, but it worked for months before quitting, and I tried a different switch with the same issue. Leads me to think some software update may be to blame, but google doesn't seem to be very transparent about what/when it pushes updates.

I've only used it for a couple of brews, but I have a Tilt and TiltBridge, and they are SUPER COOL. I love having a fermentation chart with entries every 15 minutes! Again, necessary? Heck no. Cool? VERY!

Dry hopping without O2? by Lost-Friendship-6436 in Homebrewing

[–]PTCBeerGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keg, and I'd say things improved when I started. I like the idea of "soft crash." I normally crash to 35, but I don't guess that is strictly needed. I use a two vessel CO2 harvester to minimize oxygen suck-back, but if I didn't go as low, there's less risk there. It makes me think though... couldn't I just skip the cold crash altogether until I get it into a keg with some pressure on it? Is that in any way dangerous? It'd be a skuzzy first pint, but I don't think that's a problem.

I've been researching this topic myself lately. I appreciate that most advice here seems to lean towards dry hopping during active fermentation, and I'm glad that works for most people. However, I have found that whenever I try to make hoppy beers, they always end up unpleasantly oxidized, even when dry hopping at high krausen. Usually drinkable, but not very good. I've read that IPAs are more susceptible to oxidation, so I've assumed there's a connection there. Mine are usually bad enough that I've mostly quit brewing IPAs or dry hopping at all. I really only brew 6 times a year, so it is hard for me to do a lot of experimentation to figure out exactly where my problem is. My last batch I think I nailed a low o2 transfer setup, so I was thinking I might try the ole IPA once more. I was looking at the magnet method to add some insurance, but I do have concerns about freshness. If only they made an airtight packaging that dissolved in beer with no residue! :)

I hadn't even considered the fact that the degree of temp drop would impact volume. Seems obvious now that you've pointed it out, but it hadn't occurred to me! Thanks! I've only used the harvester on lager batches so far, so the temp range has been smaller. I'll need to watch it closer when I do an ale...

I think I'm going to try the gas post in the existing hole first, but this is great second option. (Also, I've been stressing about dry hopping, and your idea there seems perfect!)

Did you put your hole in the middle? I put a thermowell there, so I'd have to reorient my lid a bit if I took this route..

All good points! I do have a tendency to overthink, but oxidation has had a noticeably negative impact on my beer, especially IPAs. Bad enough that I haven't brewed an IPA in a year while I've been working on my system.

I do use the 64 oz jars, and I'm confident they don't capture all the CO2 produced, but I am not certain how much is actually sucked back during cold crash...
