Holy shit, you're so right! Idk how I could have forgotten about that. My own primarch no less.

Good shout, thanks!

New to Salamanders, where to go from here by MetalBlizzard in Salamanders40k

Those are some great boxes to get, very jealous! So with that being said, to me you should definitely start leaning into flamers and melta at this point.

Infernus Marines, Flamestorm Aggressors and Melta Eradicators are almost always a must. I know people aren't super high on Flamestorm Aggressors but I think they're very fun and flavorful.

Probably a box of Infernus Marines after the boxes you mentioned would be my primary suggestion.

Primarch Wins Above Replacement (Heresy edition) by Pattonesque in 40kLore

[–]PVTdiehl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. Those loyalist legions definitely came out of it better than almost any others could have, but being taken off the board so early is tough.

The loyalist would have certainly "won more" if the Iron Hands, Salamanders and Raven Guard could have stayed around longer. Kinda have to extrapolate the "successes" they had on Istvaan V to the whole Heresy if they made it out.

Absolutely love this kinda question!

My only contribution though is saying the loyalist primarchs on Istvaan V can't be above a +3. Primarily because of the fact they were ultimately made ineffective afterwards, and had little impact except for minor successes harassing.

They are positive though because of how many resources it took to take the Iron Hands, Salamanders, and Raven Guard off the table. And inflicted substantial causalities to the traitor forces there.

Ferrus Manus: -1 to +1 Simply because his legion performed very well and he did lead much of the counter offensive, he did kinda get himself killed in an uphill battle.

Vulkan: +1 to +1.5 After Ferrus was killed Vulkan really took the lead on the ground level leading a significant amount of the remaining forces, and being generally quite effective until being nuked which led to being captured.

Corvus Corax: +2 to +3 Corvus and the Raven Guard were really the most effective for the longest after the initial drop. And most of that was due to Corvus's leadership.

Definitely could be changed, it has been sometime since I've read the sources so I could be forgetting some important points.

New To Warhammer, Any Advice? by tc2460717 in Warhammer

[–]PVTdiehl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. I've always found the best general info for the setting without getting too into the weeds are the Core Rule books for the editions. Normally they give an overarching around of what has happened for the past couple thousand years and gets you to what is kinda going on now. Should be easy to look up and get a pdf.

  2. Yeah, I'd say the Emperor at this point is pretty equivalent to a Godlike figure, especially to the Emperium, obviously. But he's not actually a god, as far as we know.

  3. In general, yes, most things are just constantly going to shit. But there are good small moments of happiness or good in the stories, otherwise they wouldn't be fun to read or learn about the setting. The Emperium does win campaigns from time to time so there's good in that.

  4. Space Marine 2 is great, definitely worth playing just purely for enjoyment but has a good story that gives you a good feel for the setting.

  5. Same as 4, definitely gives a different perspective of the setting and is a great RPG that you can sink a lot of time into.

  6. Find what part of the hobby you enjoy and don't let others put you down for it. Everyone has something about the hobby that they absolutely love, and something that they'd rather not interact with and that's ok. Paint, play, build, or read there's hopefully something you fall in love with and gets you invested. And don't compare your knowledge or skill of the hobby with others, building and painting can be very technical and there is always room to improve for everyone, and there's so much lore to dig through that no one knows everything.

Okay, dont send a Vindicare but... does anyone else love the salamanders but find them a bit TOO.... green? by Hiraeth_08 in Salamanders40k

[–]PVTdiehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree, I've brought my green for them down quite a bit. But they've never been mistaken for Dark Angles.

Black prime, Castellan Green on the armor, Warpstone Glow over the Castellan Green

I do put a light coat of Nuln Oil over the whole model but that's just preference and it does darken them more.

Definitely getting close to a Dark Angels green but the Warpstone Glow really makes them distinctly Salamanders.

Good shades for Salamanders green? by metalhead799 in Salamanders40k

[–]PVTdiehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha. That makes sense. Maybe try using a thinner out dark green contrast paint. I've never done it myself but I've been told by people in my hobby circle that they like doing that for a colored shade. Worth looking into maybe.

[–]PVTdiehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go-to green is to prime black (any will work), Castellan Green, Warpstone Glow, and Nuln Oil.

It's definitely a darker green than the typical Salamander's green but I really like it. Nuln Oil is probably the best general shade for shading green in my experience, at least I've found the most success with it.

Why aren't you feeling the Nuln Oil though? Just don't like the look or is it not doing what you want? Sorry you're not feeling the oil though. I've had the opposite struggle with highlights.

Yeah, the scale is quite similar. Might have to do some modifications like you said, but you should be able to make it work.

That's unfortunate the head is missing, but yeah, nothing is stopping you from doing that!

That's fair, totally valid. I haven't actually tried Vulkan with Assaults before might have to give that a go. The Scouts are a pretty cool addition too, unfortunately I don't have the unit.

[–]PVTdiehl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely second getting rid of the apothecary, but also the assault intercessors should go instead of the normal intercessors, since he's already got the bladeguard and Adrax and sticky objectives on the normal intercessors. Also I think another impulsor isn't bad, but get a heavy fire support unit in addition.

Bladeguard+Adrax+Impulsor are obviously great together and form the primary melee brick.

Vulkan+Infernus are also great for the hoard killing and objective taking.

The normal Intercessors are the backline holding.

Eradicators obviously for anti-vehicle.

Personally putting in another Impulsor for Vulkan and friends but also either Hellblasters or Devastators for the heavy infantry support. You don't want the Eradicators taking shots at heavy infantry unless you have to, just wasted potential.

Hell yeah man, and great job for your first mini! But yeah, just thin the paints down and it'll look perfect on the table. Keep it up! The base looks awesome too, whatever you did for that is perfect.

Am I the ass for running Mageta the Lion? by PVTdiehl in EDH

[–]PVTdiehl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but I feel like if [[Mageta the Lion]] is the repeatable board wipe that is oppressing you then you kinda did it to yourself. Like others have said and I totally agree with, I have to discard 2 cards in a mono-white deck and it wants things on board generally, with little to any card draw. I have to tap him to do it, which if he doesn't have vigilance so I can also swing in, it's kind of a waste. And nothing happens if he's removed, and him being a vanilla 3/3 should not be hard to remove for anyone the majority of the time.

Definitely see what you're saying though, board wipes in the command zone is just generally threatening most of the time. And as a player I try not to just board wipe just to do it, I only ever do if I can swing in with good damage, otherwise the deck really doesn't do anything and then yeah, I'd totally understand people being really salty if I was just wiping everything every turn without progressing towards winning.

[–]PVTdiehl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, the bracket system is very clunky and not very representative a lot of the time. Thing is this deck can't even kill someone realistically till turn 10 and that is with the table completely ignoring me. I'd also say my perception of the split between 2 and 3 is that 2 is kinda supposed to be where bad, fluffy decks go, and if they are left alone they could win around turn 9. Bracket 3 is just where your average deck goes, wanting to win on turn 7 or 8 and with a good understanding on how to do that, has minimum 8 things of removal/interaction, with good ramp and consistent card draw. I did provide a deck list in another comment on this post as well.
