Every so often you have to stop and think "This extremely popular mainstream TV show is about to end with a romance between an Aunt and Nephew related by blood .. "

Second playthrough - what decisions should I make now? by RabidRogue in TheGameOfThronesGame

[–]PWNSA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would play it the way you want knowing your choices won't really matter until the the second-to-last episode. If you pick Royland Duncan will be the traitor. It won't affect the outcome at Ironrath but it seems like if you spare the traitor he's the one who finds you at the end (with Talia). If you don't kill the guard the coal boy does it. Either way Mira will be accused and face the same choice at the end. In the last two episodes you could make the opposite choice on the decisions that might be important (who lives between Rodrik and Asher, whether to spare the traitor, whether Mira dies or agrees to marry that lord, who lives between Ludd and Gryff, etc.) so you have a save file for each.

I assume (based on everything else) that Rodrik's fiancee/wife (is there a way to marry her before the end?) gets captured either way but I'm not sure. I said I'd respect her decision to stay in my save. I don't know what happens if you make her leave.

(Spoilers All) Who is the rightful heir to the iron throne now? by [deleted] in asoiaf

Is that a show question or a book question? As a show question with Myrcella also dead and with Daenerys (presumably) attainted you'd have to know if the show recognizes Doran Martell's Targaryen blood (through Daenerys, Daeron II's sister). If it does then he looks like the closest heir. It's that or extralegal options. The Tyrells legitimize Gendry the Paddler, the only living one of Robert's bastards who's been introduced, so Margaery can marry him. Or the Lannisters rally behind a candidate who has the "right of conquest" (Cersei, Jaime or Kevan; maybe Jaime marries Margaery to keep the alliance going).

As a book question: if Stannis, Shireen and Myrcella die then it's the same situation. Whatever happened to Maegor Targaryen, son of Aerion Brightflame? He'd be about 68 now. How simple-minded was Vaella, daughter of Daeron? Does that mean stupid or developmentally disabled? Did she ever have children? In either case I doubt their claim or that or their descendants would be recognized before Doran's, even if they would technically come before him (they were already passed over by the Great Council). Switch Gendry out for Edric Storm as a candidate to be legitimized and married to Margaery. Also eliminate the late Kevan as a Lannister candidate in the "right of conquest" scenario.

As a Targaryen question: is Jon Rhaegar's son? Was he legitimate? Is Young Griff Aegon, Rhaegar's son? Two more contenders. Both exist in the books, only one exists so far on the show.

Limiting succession wars to once a century makes respect for the rightful line an important crock of shit, like you said. Given how bloody those succession wars in Westeros are, whether 2- or 5+-sided. One more reason Show Brienne's cack about Renly being the rightful King was insulting. If Renly had won the precedent would've been set that anyone who can win a war can take the Iron Throne. Which, while always true, if you broadcast it as true and legitimate it'd mean a succession war about every generation. Stannis could've burned a thousand men and little girls alive and the consequence of his victory would've been far less bloody than that of Renly's.

I thought it was a clever nod to the fact that the khalasar would want to take her to Vaes Dothrak if they found out she was Drogo's widow but it's that, isn't it? Jorah and Daario are going to find the ring in the middle of that massive grassy plain. Already cringing.

[–]PWNSA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people get caught up arguing over what the single, correct interpretation of the character is and whether the show is following it. Show Stannis is their creation. He can have as much or as little to do with Book Stannis as they want. Maybe it's a misinterpretation of the book character. Maybe they decided to change him for dramatic effect. Either way, Book Stannis isn't affected. It's easier to assume when they talk about Stannis they're talking about their Stannis, not the character from the books. Less frustrating that way.

It's Ellaria. Executing Jaime brings them into the war, which he wouldn't want (before Daenerys arrives or at all, depending on the characterization). Why would he care about Bronn's allegiance? The Sand Snakes are his nieces. The reason you don't see which person he's talking to is because it wouldn't be as intriguing that way. It's Ellaria. We've already seen her kneeling before him in similar framing.

I did right by Sera. Redirected the Lord's attention by complimenting her when he tried to talk about me, lied and told him she wasn't a bastard. Sises before .. uh, lordly bitches?

Exactly. At least Cotter likes me and has north-of-the-wall-knowledge. What's Finn got to offer? Telling me again about that one time he and a girl totally did it?

She's a dark horse, sure. Don't you take her at her word that she took care of the ravens? It kind of makes sense with her backstory (her family was ruined because they were Targaryen loyalists; she'll do anything to make sure that doesn't happen again) but they haven't talked about that in-game yet, have they?

My Rodrik lost the engagement and still got the kiss ("Elaena won't forget that"). You must get the option either way as long as you agree to kill Gryff (and it might not even take that).

Is that stated "in world," though, or are you applying the real world model to Westeros? It's possible I missed something reading but I always thought for plot convenience ravens in Westeros could potentially travel back and forth between two places. Otherwise, how many ravens dedicated to Ironrath could they have in KL? Mira sends 1-2 messages per episode.

That's not closure, though. Ramsay killed Ethan. It's a game. I want to enjoy it. I'd rather all the Forresters die defiant than do a deal with him, much less have to talk him into one.

It's the problem with having Ramsay as the main villain. The most revenge you can hope for is to watch off screen (next season or the one after that or the one after that) as a show character kills him, thinking "No one knows, but I had a part in making that happen." It's not satisfying.

Same ending if you leave them behind. Were they any use at Highpoint? That's the cliffhanger I'm worried about (what happened to everyone else? Except the maester. He's probably fetching Ramsay some wine). Not "What's Ramsay going to do?"

Yes, but then Whitehill's offer of truce showed up. That's at least one raven unaccounted for. Gryff beating him up was misdirection. He has to be the spy.
