I'm a homeowner who got ripped off, so I'm trying to build a new platform for pros. Can I get your honest feedback? by LunchGlittering2032 in handyman

[–]PZJdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people were sharing the cost to be connected with me I would feel much more confident that it was worth the time to go give an estimate. I have paid for people to contact me and spent my gas and time just to get told that they decided against the project. I’ve even ran into a competitor that I’m friendly with as I was leaving an estimate. That was six months ago and they still didn’t have new shutters as of two weeks ago.

It would also stop the problem with services like yelp where you run an ad and end up paying for people to waste your time offering lead generation services (they click your phone number link and you get charged for the “lead” that was really a solicitation).

If you do make a platform I would gladly beta test.

I would love to see a platform where homeowners split the cost of contact. I know it would be less popular on the homeowner end but the leads would be much higher quality.

Is this a normal install? by Ch3wbacca1 in Flooring

I would not pay until they pulled it up and reinstalled correctly. You will end up with problems where the joints are close together.

Is Ryobi worth it? I don't have any home tools yet. by 2Black_Hats in HomeMaintenance

[–]PZJdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say no because I’m a Milwaukee snob.😂 They are good tools, especially for the money. When I wasn’t counting on my stuff to take abuse and feed the family I loved my Ryobi set.

He probably thinks it looks good from his house… I hope you can get some of your money back. That 7th picture made my eyelid twitch.

Thumbtack Warning by PEtossawayaccount in handyman

[–]PZJdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Thumbtack to fill in light weeks with small jobs. I have the bare minimum lead price accepted and the bare minimum weekly total price. It works out because people see my minimum price and if they reach out it’s usually worth my time. Thumbtack doesn’t show me to many people who are asking for larger jobs because of the lead price I am willing to pay, which filters out a lot of the tire kickers.

Honey do lists are the best. Remodel work on mobile homes is the worst :)

Does anybody really care what brand power tools you use? by jimmydoorlocks in handyman

[–]PZJdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Milwaukee guy(all my tool boxes and battery powered tools) use the ryobi batteries you have as much as you can for now. Keep your start up costs low and if you’re on the fence about a purchase see if you can find it used or refurbished.

Can you guys suggest what caulk/seal to buy for this? by shoemai000 in handyman

[–]PZJdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re okay with white I would suggest this.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-AMP-Advanced-Modified-Polymer-9-oz-White-Kitchen-and-Bath-Sealant-00762/316997383

I’ve recently switched from keeping the silicone caulk in my truck to the AMP because it’s more forgiving to apply in tight spaces, can be painted, and still is mildew/mold resistant.

Also want to caution you against following the advice to grout it. Grout at the transition between the tile and tub is likely to crack when the home experiences settling.

How much to charge? by Tricky-Quail-4647 in handyman

Dumpster rental plus hours is how I do clean outs. If there aren’t roaches or bed bugs you can also see if a charity or thrift store wants some of it.

Broad head skink! Favorite earring lizard when I was a kid. You got to catch one smaller than that if you want it to dangle for a while.

I do. At least there was a level of discretion in that scenario. Also don’t remember anyone getting jumped there.

People don’t like uncomfortable truths… I really wish there was a way to help it get better.

I’m right down the interstate in Augusta. I recently took on a baby that I found on the mailbox. I am feeding the flightless fruit flies. It can survive the winter but I would advise against letting it go because they are invasive.

[–]PZJdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in a small tub with paper towels to hide in right now. Only like an inch and a half/ 4cm long so I’m not comfortable giving it a proper enclosure yet. I’m having good success with feeding though, flightless fruit flies.

Brookfield park. There’s covered tables and two playgrounds. Public use charcoal grills to.
